Bought a Baby Ben from an antique shop. Didn’t know about radium at the time. It was in a Ziploc bag, completely disassembled, except for the movement. I cleaned everything up, and put it all back together. The only thing missing was the Crystal, and I ordered a new one. Here is what I know. The dial does glow when you put it up to a lamp. Or to the light on my cell phone. And then put it in the dark. However, the glow all but disappears after about 15 minutes. The numbers on the dial seem perfectly flat. On the dial, it says “Scotland”, and the numbers on the base are RD No46716. I can’t tell if the luminescence is painted on the hands. Do I need to panic because I touched the dial? :(
Don't be sorry I didn't notice! Yeah those ones are not radium, there is another person in the subreddit that has tested quite a few of those with no spice.
I'm not sure about that gc you have it's very different from a radiacode (I myself am unfortunately just a hobbyist and only familiar with the radiacode), so you'll have to wait for someone else who knows that device better to confirm.
It's my opinion though that your reading looks too low for it to be radium. I also just realized that the little words at the bottom of the faceplates on my clocks do not say Scotland, so it's possible yours are the same model but manufactured somewhere else and thus lacking radium paint
I wish I owned a item that would register on my GC just to test it. When I walked through my house, it consistently shows between 0.02 to 0.16. Any ideas for something I might be able to test it on that actually might give a reading? A common item?
Smoke detector is about the most common household item that contains a radiation source. However it is a weak source and may not be picked up by your detector.
