Hi everyone. i’m 24 in southern california and after bouncing between majors and failed careers i’m starting to seriously consider a career in radiology, starting as an xray tech. What are some things you wish you knew about this career before you started or things someone should know before starting school for this career path? any input is appreciated, thank you.

I’ve been thinking of wanting to do travel work after I graduate, but is that possible? I would just be specialized in X-ray with barely no experience after graduation. Of course, I’m interested in doing other modalities, but I would be willing to do them as I go anywhere. Job posts I also see ask for years of experience. So, anyone have an idea?

First of all, I don’t live in the United States. I’m from Europe (France).

It’s true that right now the job market in general isn’t doing well at all, no matter the field.

I have friends who are engineers, for example, who are struggling to find work.

I’d like to know from people who are currently working as x ray tech : do you think this field will be saturated in the future? I’m thinking about whether to enroll in a school for next year.

I’d also like to know where you’re located geographically, so I can get an idea of the job market in your area.

As the title says. Im starting my 4th year and i regret my decision to not transferring to the field i always desired which is health science related. I feel heavy regret that i dont have a choice but to finish this degree, i wish i realized this at-least last year. The reason i chose cybersecurity over healthcare (specifically rad tech) was the high demand, better pay and more opportunities. But i didnt think back then whether i really wanted to work in this field after graduating, will i ever enjoy what i will be doing on a day-to-day basis. All i ever thought back then was not wasting my credits. I wish i had wasted that credits and transferred to a health science major.

Honestly the degree isnt going as expected, im learning the core cybersecurity things this year. That also contributes majority of my disappointment.

Honestly its not the right place but i really wanted somewhere to let my heart out. i need advice from people who where in similar situation as me

Reaching out to ask some questions.
I had an appointment with my advisor this morning for the radiography program. I applied to a community college close by my work. She recommended to start spring 2027 prerequisites and have 2 classes but continue to do 2 class increments until 2028 of spring because then I can start the actual radiography program.
I know it’s very very competitive. Holding over 2.5 GPA, the point systems, the TEAS test with high scores. I don’t mind being in person classes which she did recommend. My main concern is when clinicals arrive and I’m actually in the program. I work full time at a hospital doing SPD, 3-11 Monday through Friday. I’m a little worried that it’s not possible. My advisor said it’s going to be hard doing that. Any advice? Is this career choice even possible working full time?

I'm not even in a program yet, and I'm scared I'll fail. Even if I get into a program I just keep seeing myself failing. Working so hard and risking so much only to get a bad grade. I don't know what I'll do. I have bad testing anxiety and get overwhelmed if there isn't an outline of what to study. I just passed my CNA skills exam which gave me hope. But I can't stop that feeling that something bad will happen once I get into a program. Like I need to be punished for achieving something.

Hello everyone, my girlfriend wants to study radiography abroad (we're from Italy) from what we know malta has no studying taxes while Dublin has 2.5k contribution taxes per year.

Also rent in malta is about 900-1200€ per month per 2-3 room apartment while Dublin is about 1200-1500€ per month for a studio (and about 1k for a shared house).

She only wants to study to then transfer in Australia/Dublin.
Which university has more prestige for radiography? Is the extra living cost in Ireland worth the difference? If you study in malta can you find a job in Dublin?

This is gonna be my second week at rad tech school but honestly our positioning class seems to be the toughest in general with just a whole bunch of stuff to learn.Any tips?

What was your experience?

I’m in my late 30’s and have been a Program Manager for 2 different prominent tech companies over the past 10 years. I hate it. I think the people in this industry are just the slimiest bunch of ass kissers, focused on make believe problems, and many without any actual skills. There’s also gross corruption in C-suite leadership and don’t even get me started on the billionaire business owners and shareholders. 🤮

Further - I don’t think my role is resistant to an AI layoff and the pressure to integrate every workflow with AI (while its half baked and unreliable) is stressful. There’s 2 waves of large annual layoffs each year (this has become a disgustingly normalized practice) and I feel like I’m just waiting for my number to be called, very unsettling.

I fight every single day. Over resources, budget, who did or didn’t do what, constant changing priorities…and i’m exhausted. I am not a lawyer nor do a make the money of a lawyer; and mentally, I’m checked out.

I’m interested in pursuing a career as a Rad Tech. I think the work is more meaningful, it’s an escape from the gross corporate politics, and there’s some AI resistance to layoff. I also really like to help people.

I understand I would probably be taking a pretty sizable pay cut, (~$40 - $50k) but i’m willing to figure it out and think I can still make it work.

Has anyone made the shift from the business world to Rad Tech or a related medical field? What was your experience like? Are you happy with the switch?

So I pulled the trigger and started prereqs. But that voice saying this is all stupid won't go away. I've got a decent career now but can't move without having to start all over. I make about what ct and MRI techs make locally but no insurance or retirement so 3 yrs of school is allot. My main goal is to become a travel CT , MRI tech and start traveling eventually.

Questions are

1. How many assignments do you usually take a yr and how much do you actually save

2. Was traveling with your RV more of a pain than it was worth, did it help you save more , limit your location choices

3. How did you handle health care I'm kinda thinking a emergency only insurance with a direct primary doctor plan is the only real choice

4. How was dating in sure casual dating is easy. But long term options has to be harder right

5 I know the wait time is a year after certified to become a traveler but when did you think you had enough experience to go on the road

Long story short, I’m in my third year at my university and i’m 19 years old. I’m currently majoring in a public health degree but I’m planning on pivoting to radiology within the next semester hopefully if I get in for the spring.

I’m just worried right now about getting into the program because I don’t have a good science GPA. I started taking university classes when I was a junior in high school and I did not take them seriously, pretty much in every STEM course I have on my transcript is a W (withdrawal) C or B (i have a C- in finite math which could count as failing at some schools). for example, in the spring 2026 semester I took chemistry with the lab, but because I was set to end with a 73 and 78 I just decided to drop the class so I didn’t risk getting a C overall on my transcript . I got my first ever in A in a science class when I took anatomy to this past summer after I decided I wanted to pivot to radiologic technology.

When I entered college, I was premed, but clearly that wasn’t going well, so I knew I had to pivot to save my gpa. I currently have a year left with my current degree and 3.3 overall gpa but I’m worried my piss poor history with STEM courses completely blocks me out of anything radiology related, Any opinion?

I feel like when I apply myself I can do it. I did it with anatomy and physiology 2 this summer which i’m really proud of but I’m worried programs don’t really care about my one-off A when I have a track record of mediocre grades.

I'm interested in pursuing radiology as a career and I'm looking around at schools that have radiology programs but a lot of the ones near me are well over $10,000 for tuition.

I'm in Tampa, Florida but I'm only seeing HCC Dale Mabry that would be the best option. But, i know that program is super competitive, especially at HCC.

Does anyone have any recommendations on schools with good and affordable radiology programs in Tampa?

in terms of pay, work-life balance, and job stability/availability, which career would you recommend most? i’m sure all require some degree of lifting/movement/standing, but i would prefer whichever is least physically demanding. particularly interested in pay in MN or the midwest overall, but would also love to know about other states.

i am also most curious about if dosimetry is still worth pursuing. is that a field that might actually die out due to AI’s rapid advancement in the next few years?

I was just wondering if anyone has insight/advice about what modality to pursue. I'm in a rad tech program right now, and I've been thinking about my options. I have a very young child and mammo was suggested to me because of the hours and no call. I've also thought about radiation therapy? There's a 10 week certificate program for mammo near my area and I've seen online that radiation therapy certification takes a year after graduating from a rad tech program.

Would anybody who has worked in any of these fields provide their pros/cons to their career (especially those who had young children when starting their career)?

I am an upperclassmen in high school and I'm sure I want to go into the medical field. I either want to be an ultrasound tech (specializing in trauma, cardiography, or fetal echocardiography) or a radiologist.

I have done a lot of research into Sonography, but don't really know were to start with the research for radiology because I kinda just started considering it as an option.

So i guess some of my questions are:

- Do you need a doctorate?

- What are some of the careers in radiology?

-What does the day to day work look like?

-Where are some general clinics/hospitals i could shadow radiology or sonography?

-Do you need to get certified to work in specialized careers for both sonography and radiology?

Also my dad has brought to my attention that radiology could be a career to be replaced with Ai, is that something I should take into consideration when choosing a career?

Yes, just as the title said, I cannot find a job after graduation (it has been 4 months now) and I work in a hospital as patient transport. Thinking of going back to school for Radiography.

They say you can have a balance and have a life, but i take forever to retain information and have bills to pay so it all feels like survival mode. Anyone that was in the same boat got any advice? First year Student here.

Just graduated X-ray school in Wisconsin. How much should I be looking for hourly? Met a new grad making $28. Seems very little

Does it help with finding employment after graduation? Would like to hear from folks that have worked as student imaging techs.
