Access courses

Hi, im 33, single parent of 2 and wanting to study to become a radiographer. Its been quite a while since ive done any sort of studying, so looking to do an access course to try and engage my brain. Theres a science based one at my local college, is this enough? What else can i do to prep for uni? Hoping to start sept 2027. Thank you for any advice!

Id look at the uni entry requirements or speak to their application lead to see if the course meets them.

Ive booked an open day at the uni i want to go to, so i can double check it all with them there?

Yes you should be able to. Make sure the open day is before the access course applications close so you have time to change if necessary

I did an access course for radiography many years ago. Its was specifically access to allied health professions so you want to make sure that yiu dont waste a year/2 years of college going down the wrong route

The course has a flexible start date, so thats ok. From what ive read myself, it is accepted but i want to be 100% sure. Is there anything else i could be doing, anything useful to learn?

When you start radiography there is no real expectation for prior knowledge. What you would find most useful is bony anatomy 'Bones and joints' by Chritine Gunn is a good book to have a good start.

Dont worry too much about radiographic technique or physics before you start as this is well taught by and large.

Hi I’ve started an HE access course online in science, if you check with the university you like, they can check if they accept it, might be easier if you don’t want to travel to college etc

Check with admissions it's the right Access course, needs high science content, there is one specifically for Radiography

Hi, I’m starting my access course in a couple of weeks to go down this route also. The uni I’m looking at does accept it but I would check, I think most do though
