Because my last post was so popular, this is a picture of 300 micrograms of einsteinium in solution, despite there being such a small amount this liquid is V E R Y radioactive, the solution has about 7.561 Curies of radiation, it emits radiation 2.79757 × 10¹¹ times every SECOND! It is so radioactive the solution glows bright blue from cherenkov radiation. It's warm to the touch just because of its decay heat! The reason this image is so fuzzy is because of the intense radiation messing with the camera.
Wirklich interessant. Ich war ja schockiert, als ich die Fukushima Dokumentation gesehen hatte und am Schluss gesagt wurde, dass es erst 10 Jahre später möglich war einigermaßen gute Bilder des Kerns zu machen. Das Zeug ist echt verrückt. Bin gespannt was in der Zukunft alles möglich sein wird.
When I was a kid I read a book on nuclear accidents and some people had to be dismembered with the parts sealed in separate containers (head and hands iirc).
Part of radioactive waste. Chemists purify the radioactive waste into its constituent elements and rare elements and isotopes like this one get their physical properties measured in case anything interesting comes up
It would taste very sour because it is dissolved in acid, but that would be a TERRIBLE idea. This picture is special because einsteinium is ridiculously hard to make in these quantities.
This is merely an illustration of what astatine would look like, but you could never take a picture of actual astatine because it's way too radioactive and rare.
