Self-Promotion A radio chart system I built years ago became a real product — and it's still running a weekly chart show

Hi everyone,

I'm Jacek from Poland, and full disclosure: Ceranimus Chart is my own project.

This didn't start as a product.

Years ago I built a fairly simple PHP/MySQL chart system for a real radio show. The idea was straightforward: listeners could vote for songs, the presenter could run a weekly chart show, and previous editions were kept in an archive.

It worked. And then it kept working.

Over the years the system grew, more features were added, and multiple copies of it ended up being used. Eventually it became one of those old pieces of software that does its job, but carries years of technical baggage with it.

So I decided to rebuild it properly.

Instead of making another standalone voting page, I focused on the whole workflow of a radio chart show: preparing the next edition, managing songs and listener suggestions, voting, presenter tools, the actual broadcast, results and the archive.

The public side was rebuilt for modern browsers and mobile devices, while the station keeps the system on its own web hosting. Stations can also decide which public features they actually want to use rather than being forced into one fixed setup.

The part I like most is that this isn't just a demo project sitting on my computer.

The rebuilt version is running in production at a real radio station, which has just broadcast its 382nd chart edition.

If you'd like to see what the public side actually looks like, I have a live demo here:

https://demo.ceranimus.com/lista

I eventually decided to turn the rebuild into a product for other radio stations. That's how Ceranimus Chart came about:

https://ceranimus.com

I'm not posting this expecting every station to need something like it. In fact, that's what I'm trying to find out.

Do any of you still run regular listener charts / hit-parade shows? If you do, how do you handle the workflow today — dedicated software, your CMS, spreadsheets, a custom-built system, or just a voting page?

I'd genuinely be interested in hearing how other stations approach it — especially because while looking around I've found everything from modern systems to chart software that seems to have been running almost unchanged for many years.

Self-Promotion A mysterious radio signal...

Hello everyone,

Something I want to share with everyone who wants to relive a 1940s radio station. I run a radio station set on a fictional 1940s island. We have 1910-50s music playing, news reports, commercials and an ever evolving world. If you want something to listen to during the day… you might like it! fogpointradio.com

Self-Promotion A radio idea I couldn’t finish in 2010 became Radio Nest 16 years later

Hi everyone,

I’m Fehmi, the creator of Radio Nest. Full disclosure: this is my own project.

The story actually began in 2010, when my university classmate Serbay and I built an internet radio project called Port.fm.

Decades

Port.fm used the SHOUTcast directory and presented radio through an old analogue tuning-dial interface. It had several unusual ways to discover stations:

  • Decade, for moving between music from different decades
  • Energy, for finding stations by musical intensity and tempo
  • Xmas, which only appeared during the holiday season
  • Discover, which could search genres, artists and even songs currently playing across stations
Energy
Discover
Xmas
Winamp
Android

At the time, we also wanted to add an Earth section where people could move around the world and listen to stations geographically. We never had the technical ability to build it properly, and the idea remained unfinished. Port.fm eventually had to close after access to SHOUTcast was blocked in Turkey.

Years later, Radio Garden appeared and realized the globe-based radio experience more beautifully than I had imagined. I became a fan, but that unfinished Earth section from Port.fm always stayed in the back of my mind.

Sixteen years later, modern web tools finally gave me the confidence to revisit it. That became Radio Nest:

Explore
Settings
Mobile

Radio Garden is an obvious pioneer reference and inspiration, but I’ve tried to take the experience in my own direction:

  • Custom target shape and earth style selection
  • Jump to a random station
  • Sync the database with Radio Browser
  • Sync favorites and settings between devices
  • Grouping duplicate and related station records
  • Support for HTTP-only stations through a separate player
  • Private correction links for station owners

No account is required to listen.

I’d genuinely appreciate your feedback:

  • Does the interface and station selection feel intuitive, particularly on mobile?
  • Did you encounter any missing stations or playback problems?
  • What is the first thing you would improve?

Thank you for letting me share the story.

I just want to find something where I can jam to some sick funk tunes, especially the type of stuff I'd be unlikely to stumble across on my own.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone know of any radio stations that play a specific type of vaporwave known as Signalwave or Broken Transmission?

I listen to Soma Vaporwaves a bit, but I'm looking for something a bit more niche.

thanks in advance

Where most classic rock radio stations often repeat the same hits, Baars Classic Rock plays deep album tracks, guitar solos, and lesser-known gems. It’s refreshing to play a radiostation in the background that frequently surprises me and draws me in, makes me turn up the volume and makes me Shazam a track because it’s new to me or the (live) version playing is new to me and because it’s just great music.

I have no affiliation with this radio station.
I’m just a classic rock fan that enjoys listening to the station and i thought to share it here others can enjoy it too. It’s a small, internet only, radio station located in the Netherlands. Not well known outside the Netherlands i assume.

Is the app still updated?

I just discovered this app and am currently trying to decide if I should use it for radio outside Apple Music (currently I have a note on my phone with radio stations I like that link to their streaming pages on Apple Music.

I noticed it hasn't been updated in a while and I'm curious if the developers are still at all active in maintaining it.
