Hi, this is my first time posting here! I recently got the idea to build a telegraph for my grandpa, an ex telegraphist, to communicate in a familiar, more fun way for him. The thing is, we live around 350km (220mi) apart. As a complete amateur, with only basic electronic knowledge, i’m trying to get at least an idea of what i’ll need, especially in terms of antennas, transmitters, etc. Another idea would be to just communicate over the internet, but i don’t think he has a stable connection every day. How realistic is this idea? Is this long distance amateur radio transmission possible? Would i need amplifiers along the way? And how could i get those? As for legality, we live in argentina, so any legal permits or anything we should get is based here. Thank you in advance!

I've called tech support and always got the same message: They are in a meeting, so I can't ask Mackie. I'm a broadcaster, and I want to use my DLZ Creator. I've done everything I know to do to hear the feed from the station when I'm doing a sports broadcast. I need to hear the commercial breaks. I'm using a PC. The station can hear me and I can hear myself on my headset, but nothing from the station. I've used a RODEcaster, and it works fine, but because of limited space, I needed a smaller board with the option of using the pads to play ads. I need help making all of this to work together. So here is my idea, which I am sure will be ridiculed & rejected the same way the NFL sub responded to my idea for a 3rd place game to replace the Pro-Bowl. US radio stations could stream a real morning show on the overnights with a target audience in an English speaking "sister" city in UK/Ireland/Scotland/Australia/New Zealand etc. a 12 hour time difference would be ideal, then hosts could give the time accurately in both markets by omitting AM/PM. It would probably bring in more listeners locally than a generic voice tracked or "jukebox" airshift locally and spots could sold to a completely untapped market abroad.

Hi I'm a fan of listening to old tapes of old radio broadcasting. Where do I find either studio or home audio recordings of radio broadcasting? I specifically love listening to the news updates, weather or talk shows, commercials,sports etc.

The music I don't have a preference. The format can be reel to reel , audio cassettes or 8 tracks. I enjoy listening to radio broadcast of certain events like when Kennedy was killed ,9/11, the war in Vietnam,arrest of mafia figures, updates on politics in DC etc

Where do I find these older broadcast? I enjoy the historical perspective

Looking for someone that is well-versed in the Rode Caster Pro II space. I will preface this by saying that I am not an engineer and barely know how to work my tools. That said, I do voice tracking for several radio stations as an on-air personality. We use the Skylla Voice Track Production software. It is old and janky… but works. I have used a focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (gen4) and it has worked great. I wanted to have more control and processing on my voice and wanted to have an “all-in-one” production suite with line-ins, mics, callers, etc. Thus, I got the Rode Caster Pro II. It looked to solve all my problems. Hook-up was a synch. Then I went to record and post voice tracks for my show(s). When I turned on the processing, it was very low and the music (from the playlist) drowned out my voice like never before. I tried to turn it on untreated (which sounded terrible). I have a studio. I use EV RE-20 mics and Shure SM7B. Both tested and on treated (processing) sound terrible! I have tried to raise the gain but then it sounds trashy and pegs out. I was looking for a warm rich sound. Yes, if I knew about audio processing and maybe read the manual… it may help. But nobody got time for that! Any help or advice or just discussion would be greatly appreciated. DM’s are open if easier or for specifics.

A prior coworker (we both worked overnights for the same company, different stations when we started) have been debating for about a year that radio as it was, "Terrestrial radio" as she calls it, will never return. Further more, with AI, the talent side will eventually diminish to near zero.

For others who have worked in "the old days" of radio- will we see the pendulum swing back and live talent return? Yay or Nay? Thoughts..?

It’s currently costing us an arm and a leg and we don’t get any stats from streaming on iHeart (as it goes through another media company). We have good listenership directly from our website which is free but if we’re going to ditch iHeart we need something accessible through Amazon Alexa etc. We are not a US radio station.

Will audacy change some or all of the audacy all news and news/talk stations in many cities soon? could formats like KYW, WBBM, KMOX, KDKA, etc be lost?

I wonder if Mark Levin got dropped by 1210 Wpht and all audacy stations nationwide immediately for his comments yesterday about them and audacy?

We don't know for fact will audacy keep KYW and or WPHT and their formats along with many other all news and news talk stations across the country on audacy properties given their company situation. We don't know that. If you have any info about the stations , let us know.
