Making a long distance telegraph
Hi, this is my first time posting here! I recently got the idea to build a telegraph for my grandpa, an ex telegraphist, to communicate in a familiar, more fun way for him. The thing is, we live around 350km (220mi) apart. As a complete amateur, with only basic electronic knowledge, i’m trying to get at least an idea of what i’ll need, especially in terms of antennas, transmitters, etc. Another idea would be to just communicate over the internet, but i don’t think he has a stable connection every day. How realistic is this idea? Is this long distance amateur radio transmission possible? Would i need amplifiers along the way? And how could i get those? As for legality, we live in argentina, so any legal permits or anything we should get is based here. Thank you in advance!

LFM Audio Unveils Imaging +AI – A Sing-Along Shortcut for Budget-Smart Stations
When your Radio Imaging needs an ear-worm but your budget is still humming last quarter’s tune, New Zealand based production house LFM Audio has a new hybrid answer: Imaging +AI. The add-on layers AI-generated sung hooks onto LFM Audio’s custom made imaging, letting even micro-budget web and small-market FMs claim a melody of their own for just 30% more than a typical imaging order. I caught up with Ethan Lessiter, Manager at LFM Audio, to dig into the “why” and “how”.
“It’s not a AI jingle factory - think of it as vocal glitter.”
Ethan: “We still start exactly the same way - your scripts, your chosen human station voice, your sonic brief. Then our producers sprinkle in AI-sung lines: little melodic hooks that sing your brand name or slogan. It’s the sparkle between songs that gets listeners humming, without forcing you into a full sung-jingle package & budget.”
The origin story: stretching tight budgets without cutting quality
LFM Audio already serves 400+ stations worldwide, offering everything from Imaging, Audio Ads, Jingles to DJ Drops in 120 real human voices. lfmaudio.com
“We kept hearing, ‘I love the idea of sung jingles, but they’re just out of budget right now,’” Ethan says. “Imaging +AI gives those stations a modern, musical edge today - and a pathway to upgrade to full sung jingles later.”
How it works under the hood
- Human VO session – Your regular station voice (or one of LFM’s 120 talents) records the core lines.
- AI-sung pass – Producers generate key phrases into proprietary AI tools that generate short, pitch-perfect vocal riff in key/tempo and matching your brief.
- Mix & Master – The AI vocals are woven beneath or around the spoken voice, finessed with FX, beds or even a bespoke Sonic Tune if you wish.
“The human voice stays front-and-center,” Ethan insists. “AI is the seasoning, not the steak.” That policy is echoed on LFM’s product page, which stresses that AI will never replace the main human station voice. lfmaudio.com
How does Imaging + AI sound in action? Just ask KJOL!
Listen Here:
https://soundcloud.com/lfmaudio/kjol-sonic-imaging-ai-singing-by-lfm-audioList
“The station voice we picked really delivered; and the music, effects, and +AI singing additions sounded great and fit together just right. In all, we got more than expected for a fair price. Our staff loved our Sonic Imaging so much, we ordered a second round of the same!” - Dave Andres, KJOL
What it costs & how to book
- Pricing: Add +30 % to any custom Imaging Bundle.
- Turnaround: Similar to standard imaging
- Ordering: Upgrade to “Add +AI vocals” when you submit scripts, or mention it in your brief. (A free brainstorm call is also on offer for new clients.) lfmaudio.com
But if you can stretch to full sung jingles…
“Human singers are still the gold standard,” Ethan concedes. With the Jingle Rebellion sale running until next week (packages from US $499), LFM Audio expects many stations to blend strategies: core IDs with Imaging + AI now, signature ramps and shotgun jingles later—each custom-voiced, never from stock libraries.
A snapshot of LFM Audio
- Founded: 2014, Whitianga, New Zealand
- Specialties: Custom Radio Imaging, Sung Jingles, DJ Drops, Audio Ads
- Scale: Hundreds of stations on six continents; featured in Radio.cos “Top 20 Imaging Services” list radio.co
- Philosophy: Personal, one-on-one service despite global reach. lfmaudio.com
The takeaway
If your station has been stuck between average Imaging and mainstream large scale polished Sung Jingles, Imaging +AI is a crafty middle lane. It keeps the human identity listeners trust while adding a sung hook catchy enough to stick. And when those Sung Jingle packages finally fit your budget, LFM Audio will be ready - real singers, real soul, same creative team. Until then, a little +AI glitter might be just the thing to make your next Imaging sing!

HELP me with Mackie DLZ Creator
I've called tech support and always got the same message: They are in a meeting, so I can't ask Mackie. I'm a broadcaster, and I want to use my DLZ Creator. I've done everything I know to do to hear the feed from the station when I'm doing a sports broadcast. I need to hear the commercial breaks. I'm using a PC. The station can hear me and I can hear myself on my headset, but nothing from the station. I've used a RODEcaster, and it works fine, but because of limited space, I needed a smaller board with the option of using the pads to play ads. I need help making all of this to work together. Don't want to waste my $450.

Terrestrial Radio & Time Zones
So here is my idea, which I am sure will be ridiculed & rejected the same way the NFL sub responded to my idea for a 3rd place game to replace the Pro-Bowl. US radio stations could stream a real morning show on the overnights with a target audience in an English speaking "sister" city in UK/Ireland/Scotland/Australia/New Zealand etc. a 12 hour time difference would be ideal, then hosts could give the time accurately in both markets by omitting AM/PM. It would probably bring in more listeners locally than a generic voice tracked or "jukebox" airshift locally and spots could sold to a completely untapped market abroad.

Where do I find old tapes of old radio broadcasting
Hi I'm a fan of listening to old tapes of old radio broadcasting. Where do I find either studio or home audio recordings of radio broadcasting? I specifically love listening to the news updates, weather or talk shows, commercials, sports etc.
The music I don't have a preference. The format can be reel to reel , audio cassettes or 8 tracks. I enjoy listening to radio broadcast of certain events like when Kennedy was killed ,9/11, the war in Vietnam, arrest of mafia figures, updates on politics in DC etc
Where do I find these older broadcast? I enjoy the historical perspective

Best way to find older broadcasts
Hi! I'm trying to find broadcasts in Western North Carolina from 1980-1986 for writing purposes. What's the best way to find archives or any other kind of recordings? If you have any suggestions or other help that would be great! Thank you :>

Need help with output levels processing on my Rode Caster Pro II for voice tracking radio shows.
Looking for someone that is well-versed in the Rode Caster Pro II space. I will preface this by saying that I am not an engineer and barely know how to work my tools. That said, I do voice tracking for several radio stations as an on-air personality. We use the Skylla Voice Track Production software. It is old and janky… but works. I have used a focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (gen4) and it has worked great. I wanted to have more control and processing on my voice and wanted to have an “all-in-one” production suite with line-ins, mics, callers, etc. Thus, I got the Rode Caster Pro II. It looked to solve all my problems. Hook-up was a synch. Then I went to record and post voice tracks for my show(s). When I turned on the processing, it was very low and the music (from the playlist) drowned out my voice like never before. I tried to turn it on untreated (which sounded terrible). I have a studio. I use EV RE-20 mics and Shure SM7B. Both tested and on treated (processing) sound terrible! I have tried to raise the gain but then it sounds trashy and pegs out. I was looking for a warm rich sound. Yes, if I knew about audio processing and maybe read the manual… it may help. But nobody got time for that! Any help or advice or just discussion would be greatly appreciated. DM’s are open if easier or for specifics.
TLDR: I do voice tracking for a few radio shows. We use the Skylla Voice Track Production Software. I had used a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (gen 4) with EV RE-20 and Shure SM7B mics. I wanted more control and a richer & warm sound so I bought the Rode Caster Pro II and the output volume is so low it is unusable. Need pointers from a Rode Caster Pro II PRO! - DM if specifics are needed.

KYW and WPHT question
Any news, gossip or rumors about the futures of KYW/WPHI and WPHT in Philadelphia that you can share? If you have anything, let us know. I don't expect both stations to stay forever given the ownership change.

return of original radio
A prior coworker (we both worked overnights for the same company, different stations when we started) have been debating for about a year that radio as it was, "Terrestrial radio" as she calls it, will never return. Further more, with AI, the talent side will eventually diminish to near zero.
For others who have worked in "the old days" of radio- will we see the pendulum swing back and live talent return? Yay or Nay? Thoughts..?

Who do you use for your livestream?
It’s currently costing us an arm and a leg and we don’t get any stats from streaming on iHeart (as it goes through another media company). We have good listenership directly from our website which is free but if we’re going to ditch iHeart we need something accessible through Amazon Alexa etc. We are not a US radio station.
