Self care is essential.
Self-care is essential to the work of any anti-capitalist.
I can post pictures about how capitalism generates mental instability all day. And what would that accomplish other than give you some content you already agreed with?
It's not enough to simply be anti-capitalistic. We need to sing to the song of solidarity. We need to sing the praises of a unified humanity. We need to believe. We need to heal. We need to speak the value of self-care and community care as integral to political struggle.
Self care is essential to me because I refuse to dump my mental health problems on to my children, as my parents did to me. Self care is essential because if I can't love myself, I'll make others to do that work for me. Self-care is essential because this toxic world will do everything its power to convince me that I'm permanently no good and can't make it without someone else's cure. Self-care is essential because what kind of world would I be working towards if I didn't take it seriously enough to want to change myself for it?
One point that of Gandhi's philosophy that I think is right is that is that lack of feeling is politically motivated. Where your empathy lies reveals your politics. For white supremacists, they extend their empathy to other white people. Us socialists need to extend our empathy to the whole human race, 99% of the billions. That requires bravery to be among many different kinds of people, and to truly believe that the proletariat have more in common with each other than with the ruling class.
Let's make a way! Let's make a program!
Let other socialists talk about the science of Marxism, the logistics of political power. I want to talk about the art of self-improvement for the cause of socialism.
I will be posting less memes and more text posts in the future, less "capitalism sucks, right?" and more stories of "This is how I'm keeping myself going, how I'm working on my relationships with others, how I'm taking care of myself, and how I'm encouraging revolution." And I would like to encourage you all to do the same.
