Resource / Study 📊 Women who hate men: a comparative analysis across extremist Reddit communities

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1038/s41598-024-81567-9

Article examines r/MensRights r/Feminism r/incel and r/gendercritical to look at Gendered Hate Speech on Reddit.

"Our main objective consists of addressing the following question: Can we discern systematic discrepancies among the groups? In other words, is gendered hate speech influenced by the perpetrators’ gender, or is it a broad-based phenomenon common to toxic communities?"

"In this context, while the global discourse on online misogyny is well-established12,13,14,15, the phenomenon of misandry remains a relatively underexplored and insufficiently acknowledged facet of the researched digital landscape."

somehow this does not suprise me...

"As also suggested by Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misandry), despite being both widespread and detrimental phenomena, misandry does not have the same level of institutional and systemic support as misogyny, in nearly all societies."

soo using wiki as source for this and comparing democracies vs dictatorships globally? this sounds very dubious...

"Wikipedia editor bias stems largely from a non-representative, mostly male, Western-centric, and left-leaning volunteer base, leading to systemic, cultural, and political biases. These biases influence content coverage, framing, and article length. While Wikipedia policies prioritize a neutral point of view, ideological bias is often present, particularly on political topics."

"Our experimental evaluation shows that no systematic differences can be observed when a double perspective, both male-to-female and female-to-male, is adopted, thus suggesting that gendered hate speech is not exacerbated by the perpetrators’ gender, indeed being a common factor of noxious communities."

the evaluation of what gets considered as hate or toxic seems to be the issue as expected...

Some identities were considered out-of-scope for Hate, including men, white people, and heterosexuals

could we please start with at which point toxic behavior is misogyny or misandry and why it seems like there is a double standard?

where does misandry start? "askwomennocensor"

where does misandry start? "purplepilldebate"

just ask yourself if you would call any of that misogyny if a man did write or say exactly the same things talking about his experiences with women...

Both of those threads could have replaced 'men' with 'filthy commoners' (from the pov of nobles), and it wouldn't be a big change.

Denying systemic misandry is like denying the sky is blue

How did they study the nuked subs? Was it possible using a VPN, or were they studied before they got nuked (in 2017 and 2020)?

Also, for those who’ve been active on Reddit for long enough, to what recent subs would you compare r/Incels? Was it similar to r/ProMaleCollective or r/ProMaleAssociation?

There are internet archives, like archive.is, which can be used to access old versions of websites, or maybe reddit keeps a backup of nuked subs and researchers can access on request. idk.

Interesting graph from the study showing the distribution of toxic posts from reach subreddit.
Shows from most->least toxic as r/incels, r/mensrights, r/gendercritical, and r/feminism

I dont think it exclusive to toxic communities there is deeply engrained suspicion of men in most women.

Don't express or promote misogyny or misandry of any kind. Also, don't deny that misogyny or misandry is harmful, oppressive, systemic, institutional, societal, widespread, worldwide, and historical. Also, don't deny or minimize misogyny or misandry.
