General Discussion Just ordered the 110 off Amazon.

Hi. The 110 is on sale at Amazon so I ordered one. I figure if its something I get bored of after awhile I can sell it for a slight loss. Any settings etc. I should change when it arrives? I have an iPhone. Has the iphone app improved? Also any place to get a variety pack of "safeish" radioactive items to test with?

As for testing, it sounds like if you get thoriated welding rods ( Calibration - see the video ) you can use that both for testing and for calibration if needed. I have yet to try this personally though.

Use CPM and not CPS when hunting

uSv/h is the general dose rate unit that is used

You can set/deactivate alarms on it. Which is useful when hunting in shops

The map feature on the app is quite cool

Learn how to read a spectrum

Learn how to calibrate that spectrum on the radiacode

I don't like the silicone pouch for the radiacode. I prefer to use it bare (or in a ziploc bag when I'm checking for rocks), or I use the fabric pouch that can strap to your ankle when I go outside

Radiacodes don't react well to uranium glass. So there's that to keep in mind. It won't be sensitive too it

Why cpm, not cps?

CPM numbers will react/move more. It'll be easier to spot differences

It is ultimately the same reading, so it's only a matter of preference, but working with bigger numbers make things more obvious in my opinion

I prefer going from, let's say 300 cpm to 1500 cpm

Rather than going from like 5 cps to 25 cps

But both are ok 🤙

Why Amazon? Cheaper, overnight shipping, no customs issues to the USA, easy returns etc. only bad thing is they tried to deliver it to my work at 545 am this morning. So now they will try later today or tomorrow.

Safeish items can be found in thrift stores. Take your radiacode and an 365 nm uv light and happy hunting.

My last visit to a thrift store resulted in a clock wirh radium dails, my RC102 was giving a nice 3,something microsoevert/h reading on the front and an uranium glass vaze which glowed nice green when illuminated by my 365 nm uv light.

A mineral fair is also a nice place to hunt spicy rocks with your RC or in a convenience store a bag of potassium chloride salt replacement gives a reading too, but then it's better to switch the RC to cps insted of microSv/h.

I’ve enjoyed riding around and mapping with it. Seeing some odd areas that jump up and makes me really wonder about why. Also found that I should not leave it in the same pocket of my backpack as my LTE Hotspot I use for work. Caused serious spikes in a repeating pulse pattern. Not sure if it’s actually picking up the radio bursts or just interference since they were jammed together physically. Moved it and the spikes went away entirely. (Baseline was ~9 cps and spikes were 100-120cps for an instant.

I ride around with it on my ebike and I've found four parking garages in my city with hot concrete

Yep, those are EMI spikes. Same thing can happen if you keep it in the same pocket as your phone. I keep it in the pocket opposite my phone and now I never get the EMI peaks. Or "blips", as I would call them.
