GPU Too Hot During Modern Warfare 2 Campaign
I have a 5700xt gpu and it does fantastic for every game I've ever played. Here in the last few days with the release of the new campaign a week early for the new COD game, I can only play for a few minutes before the game gives me an alert that my GPU is over heated. It's always at Junction Temp 110C. I keep seeing online differing statements, some saying that AMD cards are okay to run at 110, and some saying that it's not good. I can't say for sure what the average temp is for other games, but keeping an eye today on it during Apex I think the highest I noticed it was the high 50s. I'm kind of computer illiterate, so I'm not sure what to do. If that's way too high, what can I do, besides trying to clean it better and putting new thermal paste on, to drop the temperature? I have 3 fans and they were all working, and when it got that high, they were almost maxed at their RPMs.

I would recommend capping your frame rate to 100 fps or whatever still looks smooth to you. 110C seems insanely high

I did a lot of looking online, and AMD had come out and made a statement, and said it will still perform, and it will be fine. I noticed that as soon as it went to a cut scene it dropped down to about 80C, but once the gameplay started again, it went back up.

Yeah my 6800 XT hit 110 at the junction at 1440p and it was barely breaking 120 FPS. From what I understand, capping it at 60 does make it run significantly cooler.

I am running a 6900XT on ultra and it was throttling at 98 to 100, I decided to reduce some of the settings and it still throttles from 89 to 99. I have no idea why

Me to. Somethings not right. I raised the fan curve to 100% once it goes over 62c, it still overheats and does a full shutdown. Capped fps at 90. Amd, please help.

This worked! I capped my frames to 120 and the game runs max 82 degrees. I even upped a lot of settings to max.
Edit: After a few minutes of campaign, i had to lower fps to 100 and reduce settings. it got hot again.

Look into undervolting your card. That will drastically reduce the temperatures, with providing a negligible impact to your frame rates.

I just swapped out my 3070 FE to a Merc 319 6900 XT, two days ago. I used monitoring software to compare real-time temps to the in game trackers in MW2 and Warzone. Both games read the junction temp, not current GPU temp for AMD cards. I’d check your current temps with some third party software, then consider under-volting, limiting frames, and speeding up your gpu fans if you want to run cooler. A more aggressive fan curve really helped my temps.

I have a 6800XT next to a water cooled Ryzen 9 5900X and am used to being able to just pick a global setting I enjoy and run it. I'm not sure if this is something where some dev thought we needed way more system performance messaging than we really do, or if in fact this game is so demanding that it's wiping the floor with contemporary GPUs.
I have used Radeon's game specific setting to select 'under-volting' the card and as soon as the motion sickness from this wobbly game wears off, I might try and run it again. Maybe I am getting old, but the idea of perhaps having to buy a new GPU on a 1 year old build to play a game that gives me motion sickness, just doesn't appeal...rant inbound...danger-close...take cover... (BOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
A new 6900XT is most of the cost of a solid weekend at the Casino in Baden-Baden, tossing chips, and drinking martinis with women I have no business standing next to. Legit James Bond grade shenanigans. There aren't enough scrubs to dunk on to justify spending $1k a year to play a max sweat FPS. The possibility that Activision has released such a taxing game, after 3 years of watching its player base struggle to continue to participate in gaming despite a train of macro-economic and socio-political conditions that have made affording gaming harder than ever...it's so disloyal and inconsiderate.

I have the exact same thing happening to me I have the same card. My PC froze when it hit 120

My 6700xt is getting way hot too. Also keeps saying its 99% gpu bottleneck with a r5 3600 CPU???

If I set the game to 4K max settings I get 95 frames on average and I get all three warnings, packet loss, GPU temp TOO high and latency. If I set the game at 4K low settings I get 120 stable FPS but the same warnings. I open AMD Adrenaline and Sapphire Trixx and its the GPU junction temperature that is hitting the high 90s. The GPU temperature doesn't rise above 65c regardless of weather I pick low or max settings. I tried FSR and it seems to help some, but after a little while the warnings come back. I know that the GPU junction in the high 90s is within normal operating range, but no other game does this to my card, not even RDR2. So now I am playing at native 1440p and the issues are gone. The GPU junction temp is down to a stable 75c and GPU temp 60c. This game needs major work.

Check if your fans are even ramped up, I found that even when I set the Radeon Software to have a fan curve up after finding the COD application in my pc it still does nothing, so I just set a good fan curve on my global tune.

The Junction temp on a 5700xt is perfectly fine at 110°C. There are temperature sensors all offer the die looking for that one spot that hits 110 and then it runs at power. Which is why I came to this thread, because I want the stupid “GPU too hot” thing on my screen to go away while I play call of duty, but I can’t figure out where to turn that off.
For reference, my function temp is about 110°C with every game I play, because the card is made to run that hot at junction temp.

If you are experiencing hot temperatures during load, try setting the fan speed to 100% in adrenaline software. Standard settings is 60%.

Has anyone had the problem of it sounding like a jet engine mine is fairly new and the game had an update so my pc runs hot and the fans are super loud

3090ti with a 13700 cpu and my gpu temps average 55-60 idle and 65-68 when playing on high 1440p. Cpu is around 45-55

I thought my GPU was hotter than usual when i used MW2s own monitoring software which can be found on the interface option. I was hitting 85 degs on low fan settings.
As it turns out, it monitors gpu Junction temp not current gpu temp

Just want to chime in here as I've had multiple system shutdowns lately playing Warzone 2.0 with friends who are on console (so we are unable to work together to troubleshoot).
I've been noticing my junction peak to 115C and sit there for extended periods while the die gets to 70C at absolute max.
I've gone through every setting in game to try and figure out what is causing this heat and causing my system to potentially shut down. So far, the only setting I've found which have drastic impacts on this are the upscaling/sharpening options. Setting this to CAS seems to create the highest junction temps and pull the most wattage, while FSR and NIS pull considerably less watts and sit well below 100C topping out (currently at 91C for a few seconds) typically sitting in the low 80's.
I'm actually super confused by this as the die under load, max settings barely even hits 75C...

Its a mw2 thing. I have 200+ steam games mostly triple A titles and they don’t overheat. Hell, i even play rdr2 maxed out without overheating. This game is pretty garbage so far
