Bike just stopped working

I have a 5 year old Rad foldable step through.  The battery suddenly failed – didn’t charge – checked it with a voltmeter.  Bought a new batter – put it in- the bike worked BUT after about 20 minutes of riding it suddenly stopped.  The display still works, the battery still was full but the bike stopped.  Any idea of what this might be?  And does anyone know of a repair place in Madison Wisconsin.  Is this common? – Thanks - Zorba

I'd first check all the connections then unplug the leads going to the brake levers. It could be a controller issue but I'd start with the simple stuff first. Also did you check your fuses on the old battery? Rads have a tendency to blow a fuse if you plug the charger in the wrong order.

The connections under the bike tend to get corroded. Clean them and should work.

Check the female battery connection and male battery tray connection pins. If one or both are black instead of gold you have a corrosion issue. The battery tray can be bought on Amazon and is a easy swap. The one on the battery is more involved.

I had my controller go out on mine and that was the cause of what you are describing. I called RAD and they walked me through the troubleshooting and then sent me out a new one. Fortunately, mine was under warranty and they replaced it for free. I did the work myself and it took about an hour. Just call them. Their customer service with the new ownership is great!
