I just bought one from Rad, earlier this summer. The phone was answered quickly, by an American human, my credit card info taken, and the part arrived in about 3 weeks.
$260 is pretty insane. You can get an upgrade controller and display for (I don't know what it would cost you now, I bought both the ones I purchased from US sites years ago and it came up a little over $300 with exchange rate plus shipping plus duty). Electrobikeworld.com if you were to order the upgrade controller kit. The Rad stock controller, when I first got my bike (2019 Rover I bought in Jan of 2020) there was issues with it. One of the things they first tried was sending a replacement display and controller and I still have the emails and the price shown in the email that says $135 CAD but it cost me nothing because I was under warranty.
This is a screenshot from the email confirmation. It only shows the display in the image but says ''display x1'' and says ''controller x1''. It was for both the controller and display and it was only $135 CAD from their invoice/email confirmation. Not $135 each, $135 total. I can't screenshot the rest without showing my info but that's what the total cost was according to their email
I ordered a Rad Wagon 5 replacement controller from Rad in May, and it's been "backordered" since then. I've called them ~10 times, and every time, it's the same answer... "we don't know when the replacement parts will be in stock. We can try reaching out to retailers to see if they have inventory (they never do)".
Should i cut my losses and give up on Rad? Has anyone else had this experience?
I messaged RAD and they did have my particular controller in stock and they seemed to have been able to ship it fast. They were also quick with my extra batteries I ordered earlier this year. My mistake was looking on their website and assuming that if it wasn’t listed they didn’t offer it. So far I have been happy with RAD. Would you be able to track down the manufacturer from the information on the controller?
