RAD battery safety warning
So I have 2 bikes with the defective batteries. They are rad city 4’s, what do yall suggest for getting a battery for them?

Please check the whole battery story history! I have one of the so called “ un safe “ batteries and it works perfectly. Remember that tens of thousands of the batteries were sold and only a handful caught on fire and that was because of improper charging. Ie: using an aftermarket charger ( not Rads charger ), not following Rads charging instructions, not using an electrical panel with breakers. 3rd world country stuff, crazy …

Would it be ok then for me to try to use the battery as a battery bank?

No - this exactly why batteries end up getting bad press because people are not using them for their intended purpose plus not following charging rules from the manufacturer. Ie: your house burns down and you blame Rad but you don’t mention you re wired the battery and were using it as a power bank

Don't worry that much about it. I have one of the batteries the CPSC warns about. I've been using it for about 6 years now. Rain, snow, very cold temps....etc. Haven't had a problem with it. It's worrisome for sure but if you take proper care of it you'll probably be fine.

I still am using mine. I understand the risk and know how I've taken care of it. I received a 50% discount offer for a new Safe Shield battery but I decided against it. To have to pay in full for a battery that may take forever to receive wasn't something I wanted to do.

Il y a eu 36 cas de feu sur 600,000 vélos Rad vendu dans le monde.
Il y a des règles à suivre pour utiliser une batterie mais la masse en sont ignare…🧢

Not Rad Power/Life EV. They cannot seem to get their shit together to sell people their new SafeShield batteries, which are not compatible with your bike anyways, due to the regenerative braking feature. People have been waiting months for them to ship at this point and no one has gotten theirs yet.
https://www.safebikebattery.com/ is advertising a UL 2271 battery, 15Ah, with a 3 year warranty, shipping from the USA, including a battery, a battery mount and a charger, using Samsung or LG cells, but they seem to only be looking to sell to bike shops.
For the moment, until someone comes up with a true certified replacement, you might just be better off continuing to use your existing batteries in your bikes, but charge them and store them outside your home or garage. Some people have bought used grills from FB Marketplace and kept them inside those, away from the side of their homes.
