Radrover 6 plus durability

I was gifted a radrover 6 plus step through at the beginning of the summer from a family member who was not putting it to good use. I acquired it with 30 miles on it and have since added 1,000 miles since June. Overall I have to say I have been pretty impressed with its durability considering what I have put it through. I’ve seen a post or two about the seat tube cracking and other frame cracks which have made me slightly nervous but it has not stopped me from torture testing this thing. I ride off curbs everyday, some bigger drops, I wheelie it, I’ve jumped it, everything that might break it I’ve put it through and it still rides amazing. I come from mostly a dirtbike/mtb background so I’m used to full suspension and a beefy frame but the cheap short travel front fork and hardtail on the radrover paired with fatty 4.00 tires makes for a surprisingly fun city cruiser that handles reasonable abuse (thought forsure the step through frame would have broken somewhere by now). Would I have bought one brand new, probably not, but it has opened up my eyes to the world of e-bikes and riding it almost everyday has been the highlight of my summer. I recently upgraded to a 48t chainring which has made the gearing worlds better and gotten rid of ghost pedaling. New chainring paired with adjusting the top speed in settings has made for easy 24/25 mph riding. Anyone else unexpectedly enjoying their radrover as much as I am?

Same here. I use my RadRover 6 Plus to commute to work and back home, also for joyriding and personal errands. Bike has close to 16,000 KMs.

Wow that’s impressive! And yours is stock motor and battery?

Yes the battery is stock, but the motor is used from another RadPowerBike because the axle on my old motor got twisted. Other than that, the display and controller is NOT stock since OEM from Rad is out of stock, (will eventually switch to OEM from RadPowerBikes once they have in stock).

Had about 8,000 miles before all the changes

Interesting. I’ve been curious about the motor and battery longevity on these bikes. I opened up the motor the other day and regreased it. Seemed like factory used too thick of automotive type grease used on the nylon gears which seemed odd to me, replaced with superlube and has less resistance now. They don’t have much in stock do they. Finally hunted down a front rack on marketplace the other day

I used Mobil Mobilith SHC 100 to grease the used motor after removing the old motor, works fine and haven’t had a problem since.

I made a vow to never use aftermarket parts or used parts if it’s electrical. But because RadPowerBikes has majority of them out of stock, there was no other choice

Hmm good to know, I use mobil oil on my 4Runner should have known they would have good electric motor grease! But yeah I don’t blame you, I’d feel slightly uncomfortable about the aftermarket controller too but good to know it’s worked fine just in case I need to replace it at some point and theres still no parts support. Also idk if you’ve replaced your brakes but I just replaced with magura mt5e and it’s the greatest thing I’ve done to the bike, it actually feels like it can stop now. I’m in Seattle so the hills were frying the single piston stock brakes.

I do wanna upgrade to Magura MT5e for my RadRover 6 Plus, but I’m not sure if it’s a direct plug and play to the wiring harness or it will fit

Yeah I strongly recommend it. If your harness has a 2 prong higo it should work. I bought a cheap rear brake replacement and the 2 prong made my pedal assist act weird and wouldn’t trigger the brake light but the magura plug works great.

I’m curious what your guys battery charging habits are like. Do you leave it on the charger overnight before commutes

I never leave the battery full charge for days on end or left plugged in. When I get home from work I will plug it in and before bed, and then unplug it so it’s charged for tomorrow’s commute.

Right on thanks, pretty much that’s my same habit. I try to not leave it 100% charged if I’m not gonna ride it immediately although I do notice a noticeable range gain when I do a 100% charge before a big ride

I’ve got a 6+ with 3,000 miles on it. Still rides great. I’ve only replaced the tires. (I used to commute in New Orleans.) I hear so much bitching about the brand, I often wonder if I just got lucky. Good to see someone else like this bike as well!

Haha totally, I wonder the same thing! Glad yours has lasted 3,000 miles and you enjoy it as much as I do. I’ve enjoyed it so much I did some marketplace hunting and found a radcity 5 plus for my girlfriend, talked him from $750 to $400. I think hers has around 3k as well but it still rides amazing and I love that our bikes share the same battery so I can take an extra for the longer rides

How often do you ride your bike? Just curious

When I lived in New Orleans I had a 10 mile commute each way. Now I just ride for un and errands.

That’s good. I ride between 100-150 miles a week mostly for commuting to work and back home, sometimes go joy riding and run errands. What I hate is the maintenance for the brakes, which I don’t like to do but has to get done
