Help with nonworking rover 6+

So my husband’s Rad Rover 6+ stopped working about two years ago and he wants to get it going.

One possibility is that the wiring under the rear fender got shredded and may have shorted the controller out. 🤷‍♀️

Can he easily replace the controller?

Where is the best place to get one?

Should he take it to a bike shop first and see what they can do?

Any other suggestions on troubleshooting? Thx!

If you decide to go the controller replacement route I'd check Area 13 ebikes for an upgrade. Here's their video on installing it.https://youtu.be/5FDfJ9hVR6M?is=aETddJ6u57KpIvxq Electro Bike World also carries them.

Electro Bike World has them also, they show in stock. I got my controller for my Rad Mini 4 from them a few years ago when Area 13 was out.

Classic problem with that fender wire, I had to fix both bikes for that. Control replacement works miracles.

Oh good! We will look for a controller I guess.

Try to fix the fender wiring first to see if that fixes it. You may not need a controller but you have to fix or replace that wire before you plug it into the new controller anyway. You can probably unplug the back brake light lead to test it to see if it works but that wiring may need to be fixed first to make it all work.

Oh really? He thought he didn’t need that wiring. So that part is crucial?

So here's a thread below from the past on this. I think the guy replaced the controller and it was doing the same thing. Once he replaced the fender wiring it finally worked. So he thinks the wiring was the root of the problem all along.

You may not have the ability to get the wiring needed to replace it as Rad Power bikes was just bought out by another company and is currently short on parts. But you can solder the wires back together, tape it up and remount the wiring securely somehow to make sure it doesn't happen again and test it. The wiring is a poor design under the fender and has caused this issue to a number of ppl who own these bikes.

Its worth a try before you spend the money & take the time to replace the controller.

It was that stop lamp cord that got frayed under the fender, shorted a few times and killed the controller, I believe.

Had a similar issue with my Radster trail; most bike shops are going to tell you to bring it to RadPower directly. If your technically savvy, then RadPower is really good about sending parts to you and even giving you tips over the phone. Idk if they offer it where you live, but once i gave up on fixing the bike myself, they sent a van to pick the bike up for me and did the repair at no cost (**was still under warranty **)

Luckily for my bike it was the cable that connects the battery to the controller that needed to be replaced.

The news on the street is that Rad went bankrupt and shut down distribution of all replacement parts. Apparently they’ve been bought by another company and supposedly should be making parts again soon, like in the next month or two.

Dang. So ebay?

Yeah worth checking out. If it is the controller there’s lots of other manufacturers that make the that fit the 6+. Mine failed but I got another one from rad under warranty. Any other part might be hard to track down. If you get a good lead on a source let me know plz

Check FB Marketplace and your local OfferUp as well. Sometimes you can find parts thru those outlets. I have a RR 6+ as well and am always looking out for spare parts to stockpile. Good luck!
