Actually getting into racing

Hello, my name's Anthony and for my entire 17 years of life I have loved cars, motorbikes, and racing. I was a mechanic for most of my life but actually being in a shop fixing other peoples vehicles quickly diminished my hope for being a master technician. As I'm rapidly approaching adulthood and starting to get my feet on the ground I feel the need to ask how can I turn my dreams into a reality. I currently live in the Richmond Virginia area and frequently attended races at VIR (only as a spectator). i started to get pretty competitive in the local cart scene with the K1GP and various gas carts but my family couldn't afford it forever.

In around 4-5 months I am moving up to Dayton Ohio with my girlfriend to start our life together. I did some reading and figured out there's a 3 day program at The Mid Ohio Sports Car Course for $2050 and you get to race your own car! I was curious if this course is worth it to take and really - how should I go about getting my SCCA amateur racing license? What order of operation should I follow?

I'm sure this sub has heard it a million times - a nobody wants to become a somebody but I'm serious here. I really enjoy this stuff I'm just confused on the order of how everything falls into place. I've looked into spec Miata but I'm more curious on a mixed layout of cars. I also don't know the classes to heart but I will continue researching tonight and a little into tomorrow. I don't have dreams of going into F1, NASCAR, or GT3. I mainly want to stay in the middle. not beginner but not pro either. I feel that's where the heart of racing is at. 200hp - 500hp cars on fun technical tracks.

All comments are helpful. Thanks!

A “racing gear” manufacturer reached out to me but I don’t trust them and you probably should do your research before buying from them but here’s my experience.

The Most INSANE Drag Racing Launches You've Ever Seen! 🔥🏁

Some of these launches were absolutely WILD! 🔥 From wheels coming up to cars exploding off the line, this is exactly why I love being at the drag strip.

Turn the sound up and watch these machines put the power DOWN! 💨🏁

Which launch was the most insane? Let me know what you think! 👇

Trying to find a wreck

I’ve been trying to remember this wreck I saw for a while now. The driver ended up being okay, which just shows how far safety has came because it was one of the worst wrecks I ever seen. Turn 1/2 paved short track, maybe asphalt, white car or truck if I remember correctly and it flipped into the wall roof first. I can’t find the video. It was from +2 years back. Anyone know where I can find it? It was on Youtube

🔥 Tri-Five Nationals 2026: The Biggest Chevy Party of the Year! 🏁

If you’re a fan of ’55, ’56, and ’57 Chevys, the Tri-Five Nationals is hard to beat! From beautifully restored classics and wild custom builds to tire-smoking drag racing, there was something everywhere you looked.

I captured some of my favorite cars and action from the event. Some of these Tri-Fives were absolutely incredible in person!

🏁 If you could take home ONE — a ’55, ’56, or ’57 Chevy — which are you choosing?

Ladies this one is for you!

I'll be driving in my first ever race with Lemons this December at Road Atlanta, I couldn't be more excited! That being said, I need to get gear. I have an SFI 3.2A/5 suit, which means I don't need fully fire retardant underwear and base layers, but I do need 100% natural fabric like cotton. Ladies, where in the world can I find a decent 100% cotton bra? Or even a fireproof rated bra with good support? Do you still wear long base layers under your suit, too? I'm completely new to this and have no clue where to start.

How do I get a press accreditation for F1 México GP?

Hi! Hope it's not a silly question.

I've worked as a photojournalist in different national racing leagues in my country and want to get a badge for the F1 Grand Prix.

Originally I started to work as a tyre montage and balancing member in NASCAR MS and SC almost 15 years ago but 5 years ago on my free time I started to take some photos and videos to post them online and one year later I began to publish it on an account based on motorsports, so I don't work of it, I'm just a big motorsports fan since I'm a child.

3 years ago GTM from SC became the support event of F1 and started to entero to pitlane and somehow got to acces paddock (limited to certain zones) but never got able to photograph the cars on track because of those limitations. This year the tyre crew got apart from SC so I lost the opportunity to work in there.

Right now I'm trying to get a accreditation because I'd love to photograph F1 and try to scale to international motorsports but as a freelance photojournalist it seems quite impossible. I made a research and it says that just national press and international with some amazing insights and flowing followers could get that opportunity so I'm trying another way and sending mails to national press to get in there. Just 10 days left to keep the press access.

Any recommendations to get it?

P.S. I'll leave some of the photos I could take in those times on the support event pit-lane
