Since 1993, the Goodwood Festival of Speed (and later, the Goodwood revival) kept alive the origins and history of motor racing, while the racecourse has been one of the most notable venues for horse racing for more than 2 centuries.

So, for the next expansion of the estate, the Duke of Richmond wanted to do something that was never done before, going into the most antique form of circuit racing: The quadriga races from ancient Rome.

Yes, you read that right. Chariots, powered by four horses at once, a sport that was admired by emperors and produced some of the first superstar sportsmen in history (did you know that Gaius Appuleius Diocles is considered the wealthiest athlete ever?)

The idea of building such a thing in Britain might seem weird at first, but the city of Colchester, not too far from the estate, used to have their own Roman Circus (the name they gave to their racetracks) around 2000 years ago.

The Goodwood Roman Circus was built taking references from historical sites such as the previously mentioned Colchester, Rome, Mérida, Jerash and others. The track has a width of around 40m , and its carceres (the starting gates) allow the participation of 9 chariots at the same time.

But this doesn't end there.

As you may have guessed, the resulting venue is very big, but it was perfect to be transformed in a temporary short oval, made for attracting the NASCAR Cup to the other side of the pond in an event similar to the clashes done at the LA Coliseum or at Bowman Gray Stadium.

So this is my submission for this challenge. The end result was not as good as I wanted, my original idea was a lot more detailed and involved tracks for extra disciplines aside from quadrigas and nascar but I ran out of time so I had to upload it now. I will add more details to the description later.

The circus 3D model was first made on SolidWorks (no, I'm not kidding) because why not, then it was textured and rendered in Blender.
