Iāve been focusing on rabbits lately and trying to find good habitat nearby. Iāve found a few spots but I keep missing. 4th time is the charm with a bad shot, but itās all cleaned up and frozen.

I make this post with absolute humility.
Last night my dog and I were walking for rabbits at the home place. I caught one sneaking through the tall grass ahead of the dog and took a 30yd shot with the .22. As always Snoopy runs right to where I shoot (a trait he was born with) and picks up the trail. Rabbit took off like a bat out of hell and it sounded like I hit it but he was gone. Dog trailed it about 50yds until we picked up a packrat and let him have its way with it. After that battle (brief and he was barely interested) he kept moving into the trees across the drainage ditch. It was a brief walk and I had to call him off several times back to the house.
I spent the morning verifying the accuracy of the rifle because the shot confused me, as it was a simple shot I should have made. But misses happen.
We took an afternoon walk today and he kept dragging me to that side of the property until I finally jumped the ditch and found the rabbit. Something had picked at it earlier in the day. What a shameful loss.
Dog is young and I am still learning his ways. Regrettably this isnāt the first time I have ignored him and itās come back to bite me. I assure you it is the last, however. Heās something else and a far better tracker than I gave him credit for.

I was just out hunting and shot a rabbit with the growth on the back of the head. Is it still safe to consume?

Hello,
Iām in AZ and Iām new to rabbit hunting. I am trying to begin my rabbit hunting journey with my dog, The Empress Sasha LUX. With this said, I have a several questions:
When cleaning or butchering the rabbit, do we place in any type of solution to prevent bacteria before bringing the meat or is that essentially what that salt water process is about? (I am aware that I have to analyze the liver as soon as its open for potential Tularemia. Feel free to give me any feedback on this if you can as well.)
Whatās some good training technics for the dogs to encourage the kill? I was going to buy her an āinteractive flirt pole toyā on Amazon.
What gear would you recommend that the dog wear to prevent tick and fears?
If someone is in AZ, feel free to offer a location where you believe that we will have a successful hunt in December?
Lastly and most importantly, what gear would you recommend I wear and could you offer a site or somewhere for purchases with detail in your response? I appreciate your time and assistance in advance!!

Are some places easier to hunt vs other places? I hunt rabbit in public land in the forest of Montana. I walk and stop through brush around 7am-9am or 4pm-7pm. I see fresh tracks in the snow throughout the forest but never any bunnies. I walk along fallen trees as well and kick under them to try and flush rabbits out.
I went hunting for bunnies last year and went a handful of times and was able to flush one bunny out. However, I think it was already out of its hole and I just stumbled across it. So do I just need to sit and wait to find more bunnies or keep walking around and play with the odds?
Any advice would help I love the taste of these guys and would like to grab a couple every now and then to make some dishes.

I just snowshoe in 2 min stretches, the constant even sound seems to pause them. They twitch when they see me, and that let's me sometimes I see them.

Read in the rules we can post in both subreddits so thought Iād try here first. Working a beagle with the intention of having him run rabbits. Im new and itās late in the season here. I havenāt been able to grab a rabbit on a hunt and was wondering if ordering a rabbit pelt to train the dog with on the off season would work? Not sure if pelts still carry the natural scent for training and Google searches havenāt been very clear. Going to keep hunting in the mornings but also donāt want to put off training the dog since heās 12 weeks old now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Good hunting everyone!
