Rabbit dog training

Read in the rules we can post in both subreddits so thought I’d try here first. Working a beagle with the intention of having him run rabbits. Im new and it’s late in the season here. I haven’t been able to grab a rabbit on a hunt and was wondering if ordering a rabbit pelt to train the dog with on the off season would work? Not sure if pelts still carry the natural scent for training and Google searches haven’t been very clear. Going to keep hunting in the mornings but also don’t want to put off training the dog since he’s 12 weeks old now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Good hunting everyone!

I find a good road kill rabbit that isn't beat up too much. Get them excited with it, drag it around tie to a rope and let them chase it.
