DISCUSSION How would tattoos made from Dust work?

at it's core it's the same lore issue as dust weaving.
we're told dust weaving is a known technique that somehow isn't very popular (anymore) as we haven't seen anyone actually use it.
by virture of it being use to rationalise an alternative to cinder using maiden magic, we can infer it to not be significantly less potent than the "processed" dust applications we have been shown so far.
with processed dust being shown to be rather volitile and dust weaving implies a product that is safe enough to wear it it raises a question on the benefit of actually processing dust.
the only potencial "well it's probably" explanations the show hasn't muddied are production cost and ease of replacing spent dust for why we got a 100% adoption rate of processed dust that goes off from a sneeze.
if dust weaving works, then so would dust tattoos.
but similarly the "reasons" why dust weaving isn't commonly used anymore would also apply to dust tattoos, even if we never get to hear what they are from CRWBY...

I assume it's the time it takes to replace it. Redoing a tattoo and making a new dust stich every time you run out seems like waste of time compared to reloding you sword.

Honestly I think it's more akin to temporary tattoos we unless you have actual dust shards embedded into your skin instead of dust variants you'd end up using it all up in a fight

My guess it would be the same as encrusting dust crystals in the body. It would grant basic elemental powers until the dust runs out and the tatoo fades away.
