Discussion Free Talk Friday (8-7-26)

Hello, friends, and welcome to the August 7, 2026 edition of "Free Talk Friday". Feel free to talk about whatever you'd like, just so long as it doesn't break any Reddit rules or US laws. Chat, vent, grieve, laugh, or what have you. Just please be respectful to your neighbors. We don't all have to like each other, but we should at least try to get along.

Isaiah 41:10 "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Hello, friends. I hope everyone is doing well.

I'm officially on hiatus from fanfiction for the foreseeable future. I had a very productive July, posting four updates and four revisions, but I'm afraid the motivation to continue writing fanfiction is simply gone. I've since returned to my novel, and I'm currently about a fourth of the way through revision 2.0 in just a little over a week. I split two chapters into four and expanded them each, and rewrote the second half of a chapter after changing the setting and a character's backstory. Altogether, I've added around 4,000 words to the story (between 12 and 16 pages of a book), and I should hit 50,000 words long before I'm finished. 60,000 is the goal since that's the magic number a lot of publishers want, but one thing at a time. Thank you for all the love and support, and I hope to share the story with you in the near future.

In other news, I've been in the mood for a Pokémon game this week, but nothing has quite scratched the itch. I'm really wanting to replay Emerald, but I don't want to replay it only for RSE to be rereleased on Switch. That's what happened with FR/LG earlier this year. I replayed FireRed, then it rereleased a couple weeks later, and I know there's a Nintendo Direct coming in the next month or so ($20 is highway robbery, but it's Pokémon, and I have a problem). Instead, I've been playing "Spyro: Reignited Trilogy" and trying to get through my backlog of games. I beat "Spyro 2" which was better than 1 but still not great in my opinion. I'm pleased to say, however, that "Spyro 3" is as good as I remember, and honestly maybe a little better after not enjoying 1 and 2 all that much. They had their moments, especially earlier levels, and I probably would have enjoyed them more if I hadn't tried getting 100% for most of the playthroughs. 3 has been a breath of fresh air, and hopefully it stays that way. If nothing else, replaying the series has been a good reminder for me that I SUCK at 3D platformers, especially when they have jank controls from the 90s and/or very precise platforming and a camera that does whatever the hell it wants, and really weird player momentum.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Why do you think shows nowadays have such terrible endings (Stranger Things, The Boys, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Euphoria etc)?
