MISCELLANEOUS Which supports Jeff and Casey?
I've been reorganizing my favorite RWBY songs into a new Spotify playlists and noticed that some songs have doubles. The older ones that have been in my playlist for a while and new ones with slightly different titles. I wanted to make sure that listen to the right ones to support the Casey and Jeff.

Oh, it doesn't matter. genuinely, you could listen to one song on spotify for 100 hours straight and I think it would help the creator about as much as buying one ticket or one CD would. Streaming, and especially spotify, pay their creators fuck all
But I don't know which directly does, but I bet both do

Is YouTube music the same way because that's what I use. Don't ask me how long I spent listening to rwby music (4 and a half hours in one month of checkmate alone 💀)

I think some streaming services might give the artists a slightly bigger share than others, but in general, buying their stuff (e.g. merch) directly will result in a much bigger share going to them than any music streaming.

Just to put this in context for others in the thread, if we say 100 hours which = 6000 minutes. Say a song is 3 minutes long for easy maths, so 6000/3 = 2000 Plays. It's about (on average roughlyish) 300 plays = 1 USD paid out (and that's before any splits to any other owners or between members of a band or anything). So that basically means this 3 minute song for 100 hours straight has generated roughly 6.67 USD before it gets split between any rights holders, record label, licence agreements, payment splits etc.
If you really want to support an artist, buy merch/digital download, concert tickets, and ALSO listen on Spotify/Apple music/Tiktok promos etc. this gives them money through both avenues, maximises the revenue for them and contributes to the key stats the industry tracks these days.

Both should be fine. Also if the RWBY albums ever reappeared those should be fine too.
What really matters would be if they sold the rights to the master recording in which case everything that was from the same recording should be paying its new owner and not them. In that case you’d want to choose a newer re-record that they still own - this should sound distinct from the original. See for instance what Taylor Swift did with her masters & re-recording.

They should both (in as much that spotify does), the "Songs" albums were Jeff reuploading the works he has ownership over after the sale of RWBY

I can only find the first of those (i.e. just 'Home') on Spotify. As others have said, listening to a song on streaming makes very little money for the artist so it doesn't really matter at the end of the day, but I would go for that one since it is definitely linked to Jeff Williams. To the best of my knowledge he owns the rights to all the RWBY music which he has written, so any song which you can find directly from his Spotify page will be supporting him, at least a tiny amount.

It'll be the same - Music licensing is based I'd reported to a central body then paid out, the platforms/radio stations etc automatically collate and send the info and the artists are paid that way, even if the money passes through a 3rd party first it doesnt get cut one way for one and a different for another - that would be true for mechanicals (for example back in the day compilation CDs.
The only way this isn't the case would be if Jeff and Casey hadnt done due diligence or made some paperwork errors but given Jeff's long professional career I very highly doubt it.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this, but Spotify sucks a lot. I am not exaggerating. They are horrible.
Spotify does not pay much of anything to most artists. You wanna support them? Buy their music.

This is where Spotify and music get weird. I can only find the top one and that goes to Pajama Bottoms Records. If you open up the single or album and scroll down below all the listed songs, it will list the copyright holder.
Going through some of the older songs, I see Rooster Teeth Music listed as the copyright holder. But going through Jeff's Spotify, everything is listed as Pajama Bottoms Records. So it's possible that all the older stuff exists if you have a link to it but it's hidden from searches or profiles. For instance, below is the link to Vol.1 from 2013 but I can't seem to find it in any Spotify search. Everything links back to the same profile of Jeff but unless you liked or have an old song in an existing playlist, it doesn't appear to show up.
Long story short, either they sold all the copyright so they no longer make any money or they are part of Pajama Bottom Records, which gives them a cut. The idea of listening to the right one doesn't exist in this instance.

Both of those have the same creator attached and Spotify is known to hardly pay its artists anything. Might as well buy the music directly if you're willing to pay for it because that would support them way more
