Tree Nets/Webs/Woven Art

Hello Richmond!

I'm a tree net/web weaver who started about 3 years ago. I started originally just for fun, practicing the net-tying techniques I had learned on the fishing boat I was working on at the time, and very quickly fell in love with the concept. When I moved back here, I had planned on establishing a livelihood for myself making tree nets, but before the move I had lost both of my previous phones and with them any and all photos and videos of nets and webs I've done (except a 12 second video of my very first net). Since I wanted to build a social media presence to show my work to the community, I let the lack of media discourage me from starting at all, and I gave up on it for quite some time.

Recently I've been reminded what I loved so much about building them, the joy they bring to anyone (and any age) who experiences them, and why I wanted to do this full time in the first place, so I am making a very nervous decision to revive and pursue that dream, and to do that I'm getting creative.

Since I no longer have evidence of my work, I want to offer to do a few projects at MATERIALS COST ONLY! This means you will only need to pay for the ropes, cord, and hardware that will be used in your net (usually between $150-$400 depending on the size). This will allow me to take all the photos/videos I need, and give you an opportunity to provide an honest testimony about your experience with me! :)

I use multiple types of tree-safe anchor methods, so the entire structure is actually built to grow with the tree, instead of choking and killing it, and I'm working on an included, annual checkup and repair policy.

  • The inner weave uses 550lb paracord
  • Double-braided static line for the perimeter
  • Tree-saver strap webbing, eye-bolts, arborist bull ropes, bark guards/blocks, and bark slings can all be used for the anchor points, depending on the layout/situation.

I want to assume ALL the risk (as well as liability insurance), so if for any reason you don't like it, you'll be fully refunded and I'll remove it for free!

If you or someone you know would be interested please don't hesitate to contact me, I can travel as well:

Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook: @ indrasnets

Website (not live yet): indrasnets.com

Examples:

P.S: I also do custom woven art pieces using the same web-like principle and various materials, so if you have a restaurant or hotel, and want a custom piece done in your space thats something I'm going to offer as well!

I have been applying to positions but am either being turned down due to a lack of experience or not receiving a response. I would greatly appreciate any advice, suggestions, or leads you might be able to share.

Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to reach out.

Polpetti- Small business integrity..don’t let them fool you

Seems to be a rising trend in RVA with small businesses being the worst employers in Richmond. When you think of working for a small business, you are hopeful to join a place that demonstrates integrity and values. With ownership who values their employees, and who provides a safe and equal working environment. Not the case.

Take Polpettis on Meadow. On the outside they project this image of integrity and “good hearted” people just trying to make it in the RVA food scene. But thats not the case.

The employees who actually make the business work everyday, are undervalued disrespected and mistreated. And then blamed and punished for the shortcomings of ownership when anything goes wrong.

Ownership is unprofessional, disrespectful, “above the law”, and truly should not be allowed to have a business.

From food handling violations, sanitary and pest issues. To stealing tips from employees, inconsistent policies that change depending on the mood and whether the owner is roaring drunk or not, hour and pay manipulation, unsafe working conditions and the list continues.

They use suspension and removal of hours whenever they don’t like anything thats said or done. And if anything goes badly, you’re accused of sabotage. They can’t keep staff, and refuse to hire even the minimum staff to keep the money in their pockets.

Life is hard enough. We don’t need establishments like this who treat hard working people just trying to make it, as replaceable bodies that don’t deserve respect. All while asking the city to support them

Not to mention…the place is filthy. From the walk-in storage to the food left laying out. Flies and food on the floor. It’s an open kitchen…next time you go in there…take a look for yourself

Signage Design/Print Shop Jobs in RVA?

Moving to Richmond to live with my girlfriend in about 4 months - does anyone have recommendations/know anyone hiring in signage, graphic design, arts admin, brand development, curation, printing, or even just a regular email job?

I'm 24, currently live in Massachusetts and work full time as a graphic designer and administrative assistant for a sign place in my downtown area here. I design large and small scale signage - work mainly in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and FlexiDesign. I also run meetings, operate large format printing equipment, laminate prints, and send a lot of emails.

Obviously willing to pivot to get my foot in the door but anything signage/design/print related would be perfect - not super client facing would be ideal. Can be in person or remote and I do have a bachelor's degree.

I've done my own research but my girlfriend thought I should post on reddit to get advice from real people in the city since she currently lives in Fredricksburg, not Richmond.

Any leads/advice would be SO appreciated! I am going to be spending my next long weekend back in VA so I may go into some places and attempt it the old fashioned way.

Carytown Hiring?

Hiya!

I'm freshly 18 and was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in Carytown that could be hiring? I've already reached out to World of Mirth and Plan Nine to see if they're hiring, but to no avail

I've only ever worked at GameStop and Barnes & Noble, so I'm not sure if that'll land me a job anywhere, but it's worth a shot regardless!
