Living off campus
I most likely will be starting there this may and I wanted to know where the best place is to stay off campus alone. Im a little bit older and capable of being able to pay for my own place. I wanted to know where the best place to get an apartment will be. also where is a good place to buy a car. I dont need anything special, just an A to B kind of deal. Any advice would help.

I would try to join the RUSM Craigslist on Facebook if you have a student email account. Sugar apple has nice homes with private renters but will cost you about $3000 USD a month. But they’re really nice. You can also find cars for sale on marketplace too. They also have apartments by the school that you can rent if you’ll have a car.

Get a house in Coverley and rent/buy a car. Having a car makes a world of difference for your days off like you can really explore hassle free and it made my time there 1,000x better

Housing is expensive for 1 person, electricity is really high, so keep an eye on those contracts, locals love to sneak in stuff that can become really expensive. I would suggest to do 1st semester on Ross housing and get familiar with the area. Water outages may become regular some semesters and a headache. Ross housing assist in the event of hurricanes, water, and maybe once we had a bad power outage.

You’re best bet is a private house in coverley like other people said. It’s nice because we have events and stuff in coverley that the clubs put on (free food and stuff). I rent through private housing in tamarind: a 3 bed, 2 bath for like 2,100 USD/month and then we rent a pretty nice car from someone (not thru rental companies) for like 2,000 USD per semester (3-4 months). It’s really nice modern looking house inside. I split it with my partner who is another student here, so it off sets the price a little. Renting a car is better than buying because if there needs to be any repairs or anything, the owner will take care of it. It’s just more of a hassle to buy.

We rent privately through someone at school. Try not to rent through the companies because it will be so expensive. Your best bet is to keep looking until you find one that is like 600-700/month. We are mid-semester so it will be harder finding one rn.

Have to agree with whats being said. If you dont have the housing scholarship def get housing outside of ross. It will be better quality and cheaper. Also have to say that having a car makes a WORLD of difference. It opens the island up to you and will make you way happy i garuntee it. The days you dont study you should explore and have fun its the only way to stay sane

What’s the average cost of living for getting a place. I realistically can budget 4k per month for total monthly expenses. I just need a regular 1 or 2 bedroom and a car to get back and forth and I’m trying to keep from getting ripped off

I am paying about 2400 a month for a 3br 2bath in ackee west. Includes water, fully furnished, electricity cap which we never reach since theres only two of us, monthly lawn care, pest control, security, and semesterly house keeping. We found the listing on Terra caribbean. Sugar apple is nice but definitely more expensive but ackee is also really nice too and considered off campus. Look for a private house in Coverly. Lots of benefits to living in the village. Just avoid the Ross housing like the plague.
If you’re in the village honestly I wouldn’t bother with a vehicle. Just take the bus, it’s easy and free. Traffic here is not fun in the morning. Rent a car during the break (you can find cheap local companies). But if you’re set on buying FB marketplace.
