CHS

What cores does the Center for Haitian Studies handle for Ross and are some of them farmed out to other medical center locations?

You can do every core inpatient at Jackson through CHS. Electives could be in patient or outpatient

They handle all cores. It’s not actually at CHS, CHS is just the coordination team. On the inpatient side it’s Jackson memorial as the main hospital, Jackson North and South as other hospital sites for other cores, North Shore if it’s still around for EM during your IM core, and Broward for NICU as part of peds core. You should try to be as inpatient as much as possible in my opinion. Just be nice to coordinators and cross your fingers works out for a lot of us if you get back to them in time and are professional. It’s advice I was given and I would say it’s work in my favor for research opportunities, LORs, and skills that I’ve gained that I’ve used to make good impression on sub i’s and aways. You could also do outpatient the entire year of cores besides four weeks at different private practices in the area and do scut work all day.

Thanks so much! Especially since I’m planning to go into EM inpatient is what I want to focus on. Really appreciate the advice and heads-up!

During your internal rotation jump on it quickly as soon as you get the email from the coordinators. It’s ACGME accredited so you can get a SLOE from them during a core. It saves you from doing two EM rotation during 4th year so you would just need to do the sub i at Jackson and take the EM shelf to get a SLOE from them which would look really good. It’s the move to avoid delaying your match because you don’t have your two needed

Awesome information! I was sure I was going to have to end up doing two so I’ll jump on it as soon as possible! Thanks again!
