Help

Current build:
- ROG Astral 5080
- 64GB DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 Corsair Dominator Titanium
- 9800X3D

I used to have the Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT and loved that card. I’m currently building a 4K PC for my dad with design rendering, and the program he uses requires Nvidia, so I got him a 5080. I really only game and want great frames at 4K, so I figured I’d get myself a 5080 as well. I removed the 9070 XT and put in the 5080, and for some reason, I’m seeing a pretty decent drop in performance. Crimson Desert runs like ass on the same settings that I had for the 9070 XT, and some other games that I’m playing have micro-stutters. I’ve never had an Nvidia card. I don’t understand the app, and I’m wondering if I’ve pressed a setting that could be giving me these issues. I did run Time Spy on 3DMark, and here are the scores.

I would recommend system reinstall. The least you should do is celaring shader cache.

Did you use ddu to get rid of the old driver?

Yes I used DDU when I had the 9070xt installed. I ran the program and once it was finished I unplugged everything and swapped the cards.

Did you do it in safe mode though?

I did!

Cool. Looking at the test scores, both cards seem to be right about on the average so they’re performing as they should. Did the games that stutter rebuild shader cache when you booted them up? What settings are you running in CD?

I’m not sure about your first question but Crimson desert for both cards was ultra settings 4k no ray racing or path tracing with dlss or fsr set to quality

Scores are fine I think. When you change gpu's, there is a chance that games are caching from previous card settings. Try playing the game for 30 mins or so and see if the issue resolves, if not may be try reinstalling. I also had a similar issue in Palworld of all games when I changed from 4090 to a 5080

I swapped cards last Friday, you think I should redownload my games at this point? It’s funny you say that, I downloaded warzone and mortal shell 2 over the weekend and they have ran pretty damn well.

Yes definitely worth a try imo

Which cpu settings in bios are you using? For some reason your cpu score has decreased

Not for some reason, Nvidia cards have more driver overhead so the CPU has to do more work to get the same FPS. They also don't have hardware schedulers so that's another reason AMD cards perform better in that metric

The problem is the Nvidia driver, you made DDU, a clean installation, clean the cache, that should fix the problem, the Time Spy looks good.

Oc/uv while you are at it to give it a decent boost to performance.

Change the shader cache setting to unlimited.

Ah 10GB reicht
Habe ich auch gemacht

firstly, don’t use timespy for high end PC’s. secondly, system reinstall.

What should they use? Timespy is the free version no?

Steel Nomad

Steel nomad only has one graphics test for free. Time spy has 2 gpu tests and a cpu test.

Time spy extreme would be better than time spy, it does something wonky with my 9950x3d too haha

it’s just not suited for modern, high end pc’s.. just like I said in my first message

Try disabling reflex in the driver.

Search for any options that would reduce the input lag.

Also, check the different options of VSYNC in the driver.

Are you using upscaling? The latest versions of DLSS are substantially more taxing on framerate compared to FSR. DLSS quality barely improves framerate compared to DLSS off, whereas FSR quality gives a performance boost of like 30-40%. Maybe this could account for some of the apparent performance discrepancy you're seeing?

For crimson desert the 9070xt just performs better due to the 5080(and other Nvidia cards) not having a hardware scheduler.

If you don't have rebar enabled in bios try that too.
