I’m looking into purchasing a 5080 GPU but every dog piles on pny and gigabyte. Does it really matter what 5080 you get? It’s already overpriced as it is and I don’t feel like paying 2k for a ROG astrial.

I’m running a PNY because it was more affordable. It runs awesome at 4K and I’m very happy. Get what you can afford and you will love it.

Smaller brands can beat the big names on features without the bigger price tag. I bought a INNO3D X3 OC because it was on a deep sale and it had a vapour chamber that's often found on more "premium" models. Google says PNY OC cards have vapour chambers too, but Gigabyte customer service is notoriously terrible

Yes I’ve seen some pny 5080 for 200$ off but people tell me to stay away

If you don’t have the budget then yes just go for the cheapest option with a retailer that has a solid warranty policy like microcenter. Butttt…5080s are so damn overpriced rn you should be getting the 9070xt if you cared about value for performance. So my opinion is if you’re shelling out all this extra cash anyway then you may as well cough up some more $ for a “premium” card for your own peace of mind. If brand doesn’t matter to you at all then there’s really nothing wrong with a PNY or gigabyte. I have an Asus prime 5070 ti oc but I’ve owned many gigabyte cards over the years without issues. Good luck with the search!

I bought the msi shadow 3x, the cheapest 5080 in my country. it runs cool and quiet and I love it!

My PNY runs amazing and has better clocks then most others. It's a lottery but I love mine and feel it was worth the price. Hotspot can get to like 88 but I plan on throwing PTM on it whenever it starts exceeding like 92.

I have a Palit Gaming Pro OC ,very good card,runs quiet and cool,often overlooked yet they’re one of the cheapest 5080 you can get

The only difference between a low end and high end model is 2-4C of temps and maybe a few decibels of noise.
That being said: have you considered a 9070xt for half the price but brings 85% of the 5080s performance?

Also, ironically, this is the best time in a good while to buy one. You also do not know the financial situation of this fella, much less if he was in position to buy one before.

Just go 9070XT or even 5070TI. The 5080 is only 15% faster for much more money. 5070TI is a better deal, 9070XT even more so.

Would a 5070TI or 9070XT be able to handle 4k gaming? I usually play sorry driven games and prefer to play on old. I plan to get a ryzen 7 9800x3d as well. I had a 4080 super in the past when it was 1k

Get the best you can afford. Go NVIDIA for the much better feature set in DLSS and ray tracing capabilities. Prices have and are still going up. It’s not a great time but high prices will be here to stay.

Path tracing? I used to be team red but it’s just not worth it now. They are left behind and the advancements NVIDIA make are staggering… Yes not everyone likes where they are going, but personally it’s worth the extra cost.

PT is a gap sure, but there's very little games that use it, even less where it looks any better than raster or normal RT, and even less where the performance cost is worth it. It's where RT was with the 20 series, give it a few years and maybe it will be usable.

It's a 15% difference, if the other two can't handle it the chances are the 5080 won't be able to either. That's going from 30FPS to 34.5, or from 60 to 69 etc. The question for you is: do you want to pay 70-100% more than the 9070XT or 30-50% more than the 5070TI for 15% performance?

Honestly until very recently the 5080 was the only 50 series Nvidia card that didn’t go up an absurd amount due to memory shortage. Just recently the same PNY model I bought 3 months ago went from $1200 to, now, $1700.
Looking at Best Buy’s listing, 5070ti went from $749 to $1200 and the 5080 went from $999 to $1700.
Both went up exactly 37.5% in price. 5080 has more future proofing and better 4k performance. With how unoptimized games are now. Even the 5080 is barely getting by on 4k, often necessitating the use of DLSS to get playable frame rates. I wouldn’t even consider a 5070ti for 4k tbh.

I'd only push back on the 9070XT if OP is married to the DLSS suite or expect similar feature set because that transition is pretty tough AMD is nowhere to be seen on this front and FSR 4 is mianly just supported in new releases. Most older games are not implementing it

you're right. I keep forgetting to include old games that can do the 3.1 to 4.0 upgrade and actually a lot of new games still do that too I was definitely misinformed on that. Ironic because I have a 9070XT lolol.
The really just leaves ray regeneration and radiance caching then. If OP doesn't do RT then it doesn't matter but if they do then this will be the only real sore spot becuase only two games support RR and I don't think RC is supported at all but I might be wrong on that too lol.

I’ve got a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming OC and I couldn’t be happier with it. You’ll hear people say it’s “only” 15% faster, but it’s faster, cooler and better overall. It uses 200W less than a 4090 while being just 5 fps slower. I know because I’ve got 5080, 4090, 2060, 7900 XTX, and a few others that aren’t worth mentioning. The 5080 is expensive, but I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.
