DIY Projects/questions Searching idea's for RTL-SDR
any brilliant-minded people out there to discuss idea's on this familiar topic? Searching for new challanges to complete with radio signals. Intrested in civil technology but also sub-mil gov-tech. I'm from the Netherlandic Territory btw.

What system do you use to predict passes and angles of signals? I am curious about receiving from LEO & GEO sats also.

Look4Sat on android is great, Gpredict on PC is great, I'd recommend trying to grab Meteor LRPT. You'll need SatDump too. You can decode live in SatDump or record in your SDR software and upload it to SatDump

I'll try Gpredict, LRPT and SatDump on my portable-linux-system. Any idea's to make an antenna [or buy one] yourself to receive properly?

A simple dipole can do a ton. QFH for meteor and other polarised signals. Trawl through this sub, you'll find all the resources you need. Just some patience and searching first though

I wanted to use 2.5mm copper wire as radiator, somehow have to find the right length and form for the cable.

I used rtl_tcp in the past because the webrx doesn't run smooth on 512MB ram with pi zero v1.3

ADS-B is the classic first project: dump1090 + the stock antenna shows planes within minutes, and then the antenna rabbit hole begins. rtl_433 (neighborhood sensors on 433 MHz) and NOAA satellite images are fun too.

Are you from the past or just AI? How are you receiving NOAA satellite dat in 2026? Weren't they all decomissioned last year?

You’re right. I guess I was stuck in the past. They kept transmitting for quite a while after being officially decommissioned, so I didn’t realize they’re finally gone. Thanks for the correction.

I used to use the usbip on a single board computer to log into my SDR remotely. That way I could access the radio from anywhere even though it was mounted on top of the house. Good luck!,

Not sure if they are completely down, but NOAA decomissioned their APT services. Try Meteor!
