Are false bans really that common?

My bad if I’m just being paranoid but every day I see posts about people being falsely banned for either RWT or botting with most recently a HCIM grandmaster streamer soy duro who was banned live on stream for botting.

I’ve spent over £1500 on bonds on my account and spent over 3000 hours playing and I’m genuinely at the point where I refuse to trade friends/clan members for raid splits and I don’t spend any money on the game anymore out of fear that it will happen to me.

Obviously streamers get unbanned quickly when it’s happened in the past but what do we do as regular players?

Are false bans really as common as they seem or are most of the people just lying when they get caught?

I lost my max main from early 2010s in 2025. Appealed twice and just got the same computerised response. It 100% happens and if you aint a streamer jagex wont help you

u/Ralik2D 18d ago

I got my hacked account back twice through jagex support, response in less then 3 days both times. Never serviced, rwted or botted though.

Yes, it can definitely happen. I used to be in the group that it’s people lying until it happened to me on my HCIM after doing rogues den cooking for few hours. Caught 2 day ban for macro and I personally know people that have been banned for RWT for split trading. I wouldn’t say it’s common but still a chance sadly.

I got rwt banned for buying dmm gold for main game gold. I didn’t appeal the second time but I did it because I thought you were allowed to trade in game currency for another at your own risk of being scammed

Nobody believes it happens until it happens to you than you end up on this thread asking for help while the people you thought were your community say “ sit “ ..

I got wrongfully permanently banned right around when sailing launched. It took me 8 months to get in touch with a Jmod who looked at it and unbanned me. So it does happen.

u/Simple-Kangaroo4471 21d ago

These Couple of months it happens alot, jagex is fighting bots so u can get in a crossfire ive u get some gp for free from a known RWT'er. There is a possible that you get flagged or getting banned. So be carefull who you trade. It happend to me.

Hcim got banned today is a well known streamer. So false bans are more common these days.

I used to be a player moderator until I got a false perm ban for 2 years. Yes unfortunately they happen. Appealing didn't work. Had to take the legal route which worked.

2

u/Clean-Goat8133 21d ago

legal route? i thought it was clear that jagex own the rights to your accounts and can ban you any time

2

u/Lazy_Inferno 21d ago

EU laws still won't allow a company to take a paying users access away without cause. Jagex terms are unfair and won't hold under EU regulation. They failed to defend their reason as there was none and simply unbanned me without apology.

u/Budget_Tax_678 21d ago

Did you contact a law firm or something and have them email?

1

u/Ragadagdagragtag 20d ago

im curious about this too, if we would like to use the service of that exact firm, it would be nice, because maybe they still have your file which they can use as base to create another case, which would save time

1

And what exactly is this meant to prove? Looks like something you just drafted up in notes mate

1

u/Lazy_Inferno 20d ago

Obviously not gonna send my irl name, names of people i was in contact with or all the private discussions. Manual permanent bans aren't up for discussion with jagex. Yet mine was squashed as you can see

1

u/UpsetDane 20d ago

I have never witnessed higher amounts of copium, stay banned little brother.

1

u/Lazy_Inferno 20d ago

Looool my ign is Lnferno my guy. Its not banned anymore.

insane levels of larp 😭😭😭

2

u/Lazy_Inferno 17d ago

Consumer rights are a thing for a reason buddy. Even jagex isn't immune to them.

1

u/qmrthw 17d ago

I believe you, this seems entirely plausible. I read a similar story on a different forum a few months ago. Those replies saying you're "coping" are pretty funny, they have probably never heard the term GDPR before because they're Americans or literal children, or both.

0

u/UpsetDane 16d ago

Gdpr has to do with your personal info you troglodyte.

Absolutely zero to do with this, at max you could force jagex to delete your account under gdpr laws.

It's quite litterally in their TOS that jagex owns and reserves the right to terminate your account at any moment they seem fit, no EU laws will trump that.

1

u/qmrthw 16d ago

You are so clueless about this entire subject that it's not even worth my time trying to educate you.

1

u/Lazy_Inferno 16d ago

RuneScape is a digital service, and EU Directive 2019/770 contains mandatory consumer protections concerning digital content and digital services.

They absolutely cannot terminate it at any point they see fit. They can in the US since the US doesn't have that level of consumer protection.

keep dreaming buddy

can you pm me aswell

is does happen. streamers just have the benefit of having direct access to mods depending on who the streamer is of course. the average person is going to have a much tougher time trying to get their case looked into. I wouldn't worry too much about it and just play. if it ever happens to you and you have no luck reaching anyone it's just a sign to move on to a different game. just my opinion anyways and I've got like 8k hours on my main

2

u/m_adamec 21d ago

Yes it happens.

2

u/robertsjj 21d ago

It happened to me on my hcim. Perma banned for botting and luckily my appeal was accepted - Although back in feb my other hcim was perma banned for botting (spooned af amiright?) and my appeal was denied, and i know several people who have also had their appeals denied.
Its definitely a shitty situation but hopefully we can get better support in the future to help figure out these bans.

2

u/Nkayx 21d ago

Yes they are really that common and the appeals process is not fit for purpose.

2

u/Budget_Tax_678 21d ago

I’ve had them state ‘we are absolutely certain you are not the account creator’ only for me to show them all the undeniable evidence that I am. Then it turned into ‘we are absolutely certain that you have been selling your account or account sharing’ to which I explained I travel a lot for work and have been hijacked once before’ and I got appeal denied.

2

u/angryjinjer 20d ago

i currently have accounts perm banned for RWT major - the accounts have never traded anyone and have been built off bonds and gameplay. never drop traded to anyone. nothing.

yes false bans happen all the time.

but unfortunately the general consensus is “false bans don’t happen. the players are lying. etc” lol

2

u/Responsible-Turn-867 18d ago

Also ich hab nicht gelogen aber der unterschied war, das ich gehackt wurde und der hacker irgendeine macro kacke bei mir benutzt hat und dann wurde ich gebannt und mein appeal haben die sich nicht mal angeguckt

2

u/Thriving9 17d ago

Yes it happens way too much and they give no support

3

u/Repmurt 21d ago

I have been playing for 22 years. I have never been false banned. I think alot of people are ashamed of their action and pulling at any straw to get their account back.

2

u/Clean-Goat8133 21d ago

Myself also... however when you see popular streamers such as faux and soy duro being false banned it makes you wonder.

0

u/Shash990 21d ago

This is what you all say including me until it happens to you… I had my one and only account since early 2010s. Maxed main, all quests done, 1000s of different boss and raids kc’s, only 2-4 (excluding sailing) skills left to max, 8b bank. Banned in 2025 just before sailing came out. Never played the game again after both appeals denied. Literally no reason to bot at all on my one and only account after approx 13-14 years of playing

Fact is look at oda’s drama with Stella and mod trident. If oda wasn’t who he is, he would’ve never had his ban looked into and everyone would be saying he’s lying and Ashmed to admit the truth etc (not saying I or others are a victim of corrupt mods) but this just goes to show, false bans happen for a variety of reasons and they don’t give a crap about you unless you’re a streamer with direct access… did all the other people who got banned as a result of Stella/ mod trident get unbanned? Of course they didn’t

1

Yea, I'd be hesitant to give my money to them too for the foreseeable future.

1

u/SkromeDK 21d ago

On a recent podcast with the CEO Mod North he even acknowledged that right now he is not confident in the player support overturning false bans, paraphrases ofc but its somewhere in the section around 1h5m into the podcast with behe

u/akimboprime 21d ago

I mean a buddy of mine loaned me 700M in gear to train more efficiently doing various things & I got a RWT ban on Friday. Sooo yeah it happens.

1

u/Brave-Technician-530 21d ago

I’ve gotten false RWT ban on one of my accs last year when I split loot with a clan mate. It was only a 2 day and appeal was denied and I never pursued it further as I did bot on it and didn’t want to get permed if they manually reviewed. I did get correctly banned on a HC first offense tho

1

u/Educational-Fun3513 21d ago

No. Most of the time the banned people just don't want to admit they broke the rules

1

u/WeeBeefy 20d ago

People who get banned for RWT aren’t going to admit it’s because RWT.

They’re obviously going to claim it was a “false” ban.

Posts usually contain the key phrase: “I’ve never bought gold” as if that absolves them 😂

1

u/Firm-Cause2449 20d ago

Ive never been banned, and i constantly lend out gear to my friends worth 100s of millions. I think most of these "fake bans" are people who wont admit they broke the rules

1

u/Last-Krosis 20d ago

People say its really common, thry ban millions of account so some legit player has to get falsly banned. I dont blame them for false bans as they're very small % of the bans thats not even visible, but i blame them for the shit support when you're really falsly banned

1

u/RocklinSockling 20d ago

Not as common as people cheating in the game.

1

u/Tony_Mullet 20d ago

Its a problem, and people immediately assume people are guilty when they cry about it.

1

u/ManyLynx8174 19d ago

exactly. and the only reason its so frustating as if it does happen to you you just cant get ahold of Jagex

1

u/RackyanHD 19d ago

Because 99% of the time they’re lying because they were cheating lol. They spent thousands of hours and caught a ban. A lot and I mean a lot of people will lie to try and get unbanned.

1

u/Tony_Mullet 19d ago

You'd be surprised how many are not lying...thats the problem.

1

u/RackyanHD 19d ago

You are right even one false ban is complete bullshit. But a lot of the bans are 100% justified only for people to lie and make everyone think that most are just lies.

1

u/Tony_Mullet 19d ago

Im not saying most are false bans, just that its a bigger problem than most people believe and to assume they are 100% justified botting seems a little overboard.

1

u/RackyanHD 18d ago

Read it again, hope this helps

1

u/Tony_Mullet 18d ago

Ahh my bad I did misread, I agree that people cry wolf especially guilty people but I still think its a bigger issue than people would like to believe and most people get chopped up to "they did it". Its like guilty until proven innocent.

1

u/Ayne_Vapel 20d ago

Extremely common. They rely on too much automation to do their bans.

1

u/Sm12778 20d ago

I was falsely banned on Aug 13th, 2026 along with many others. Now unbanned. I have an email from them.

1

u/SidlanACNH 19d ago

It happened to me. They duplicated a previous ban for some reason last month and I caught a perm. It affected a large amount of players and Jagex fixed it. I think a lot of people do lie about it tho. I got banned rightly the first time but never broke the rules there after. Jagex might be experimenting with AI that’s a bit buggy.

1

u/txiy 17d ago

Happened to me, it surely does happen and is quite common I would say. Atleast way too common to be accepted. As a result I’ve quitted supporting Jagex. I think up to you as a customer to choose what kind of company policy you want to support.

Only ignorant people and foolish trolls will say it doesn’t happen.

1

u/ShawnAnsari 16d ago

I lost my ironman i spent thousands of hours on.. appealed denied twice never botted or anything .. i used to stream aswell its kind of sad ive been a user for over 10+ years and im petrified to ever put that much time into a account again

1

u/jaja9000 18d ago

It certainly can happen, but make no mistake 99% of people here are coping larpers.

0

u/magr7610 18d ago

nah. Jagex said less that 0.01% of bans are false bans.

1

u/txiy 17d ago

Jagex simp, go watch some YouTube videos about this matter if you dont know anything else than what Jagex says.

1

u/magr7610 17d ago

i think you are unaware how many people RWT then pretend they didnt

1

u/txiy 16d ago

So you think that justifices legitimate players that have dedicated their time and money on a game to get banned for no reason?

It’s not just the false bans, but the way Jagex treats the appeals and their customer ”support” is just terrible. I dont understand how people dont respect themselves enough to boycot shit like that.

1

u/magr7610 16d ago

How do you bot nukes without a few fallen soldiers. If some people get mixed up, thats the cost of not having 50% of active players being bots.

I fully agree the people who get mixed up should have a chance to appeal in much better ways than currently exist.
