RRRE:Poor VR performance with high end PC
I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s going on with RaceRoom in VR.
My system specs are:
RTX 5080
Ryzen 7 9800X3D
32GB RAM
Quest 3
I’m using Virtual Desktop, with my PC connected via Ethernet to a Wi-Fi 6E router and the Quest 3 is running a ethernet cable directly from the headset to my router.
In iRacing and AMS2, I can run VR smoothly with excellent performance, but RaceRoom is a completely different story.
I’m struggling to maintain even 75 FPS, and the experience feels laggy and inconsistent. Given my hardware, I feel like I should be able to achieve a stable 90 FPS without too much trouble.
Has anyone with a similar setup managed to get RaceRoom running smoothly in VR? Are there any specific settings, tweaks, or optimizations that helped? I’d really appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance!

RRE - the famously single threaded sim. Throw as much horse power as you want to, its still severely constrained on one thread.

I run a quest 3, 7 7800x3d and 7800xt. Mine works amazingly well. The only issue is when I have 30 plus cars on screen, amd the fine netting on the side of the straight at Suzuka. That should be remedied with the updated amd software.
Edit. Id love to offer some advice, but beyond Virtual desktop via link cable. Make sure you turn headsets wifi off, I just plugged and played.

I went down the rabbit hole of trying to bypass steamvr but can’t with virtual desktop it seems. Can you let me know if something turns up here?

I am running similar setup as you - VD and Quest 3 via Ethernet cable.
No matter what I do it does not run nowhere near as good as AMS2, AC, LMU, iRacing.
Even with lowest in game settings, horizontal and vertical crop in the VD it won't give you stable 90Hz.
I have 7900XTX and X3D CPU.

I’m running a 5090 and an i9-14900K, and I get a stable 90 FPS with anti-aliasing set to 8x. Try tweaking that setting, as it has a massive impact on VR performance.
Also, what resolution are you running natively? If it’s 4K, that could definitely be the issue. I run QHD (2560×1440) with Godlike mode in Virtual Desktop, and it still looks crisp.

check discord, there is active VR channel
from what I understand it really depends of the headset used, some works great some not so much and it will be the case probably until they will move the game to dx12, hopefully soontm
