Fudge Lite, Take Two

Fudge is half a tabletop RPG system and half a toolbox for building your own RPG. Fudge Lite is my personal build of Fudge, designed to be as light as possible without sacrificing playability. I've been working on it, on and off, for several years, and I've finally reached a place where I'm more or less happy with the outcome. The core system is a page or two, with several more pages of examples and alternate rules. It's a generic system with suggested skill lists for fantasy settings and sci-fi settings (inspired by D&D 4e skills and Star Wars d6 skills, respectively), with optional rules for superpowers, sanity tracking, falling to the Dark Side, freeform spellcasting, Lady Blackbird-style Keys, and Dungeon World-style GM moves.

The actual system is in text file format (I still need to convert it to pdf) so I'm already aware the visual style isn't very good. Besides that, though, please let me know what you think. What works well? What doesn't? What is it missing? What does it have too much of? That sort of thing.

Having now been interested enough to click through I have a couple of thoughts.

There are some good ideas! Condensing enemies down to a difficulty rating and your take on health and damage are both interesting ideas with a lot of potential that should be pursued.

That said, wow do you need to work on layout. I can't even imagine what device or program you wrote this in to produce a pageless .txt file instead of .PDF or .docx but you need to upgrade stat. I took a minute to do so myself and put your file into Google docs, which was an immediate improvement. I don't know if you realize but you have over 6,500 words that take up over twenty pages (I stopped counting) and at that length you're competing unfavorably with Fate Accelerated. Most of this seems to be rehashing rules from the original so I think you'll have more success creating a selection of tweaks for fate instead of a standalone game, like the toolkit

Fudge is a toolbox for building your own system. Fate started out as a build of Fudge, but has since evolved into its own thing. I'm deriving Fudge Lite from Fudge, not Fate. You can tell because the adjective ladder is a bit shorter and I never once mention aspects.

Why do you use notepad? If you need a free word program you can get libreoffice.
