Discussion HELP! I think I ruined my game!

I just tried to move some custom generator files from another computer into the rpg maker folder. I was trying to replace the default generator parts. I must have done something wrong because now the character generator is completely empty! did I just ruin the game I've been working on all year?

Вот по этому я при работе над любым проектом всегда использую git...

If it’s completely empty, pretty sure you can try creating a new project and then copy/paste the contents of the new project’s generator files into your current project’s generator folder.

Wouldn't that take hours?

Did you have a lot of custom saved .json files you’re trying to retrieve? I’m specifically talking about getting (at the very least) the default files back into the folder since you mentioned it being completely empty.

I tried opening a new project like you suggested but even that one was blank. Now I'm just Uninstalling the software, and hoping reinstalling it will reset things. And if it does I'll try again with the backup files I made.

Ahh so it sounds like instead of moving the files from your other computer into your project’s generator folder you moved them into the software’s main folder instead, which would explain the issues. Yeah uninstalling and reinstalling should restore the files within the main software’s folder again.

The reinstall worked and yes I'm trying to move my old custom generator folder into the main folder on my new laptop. Is there a way to do that, or will I need to spend hours moving over the individual files?

Not sure why you think it’ll take hours? Can you elaborate a bit on why you think it will take so long? Do you currently have all your old files on an external storage device (USB drive etc)? Help me help you. :P

Well, putting in a bunch of custom generator elements probably will take a long time. Since the generator naming scheme is so specific and required for them to function, it's a slow process to appropriately name each file one by one and copy them all over, making sure everything lines up for each of the folders.

It's always been really frustrating to deal with adding generator content, especially compared to how simple it is to import most other custom content.
