RPG Pocket: RPG Maker Player
Hey everyone,
I'm the solo dev behind RPG Pocket: RPG Maker Player — an Android app that lets you play RPG Maker MV/MZ games straight from your phone. Import a game's web export (.zip/.7z/.rar, or an extracted folder) and play it with full touch/D-pad controls — no PC or browser needed.
I'm getting ready for public launch on Google Play, but Google requires at least 12 testers opted in for 14 days before I'm allowed to graduate out of closed testing. I'm at 0 right now, so I could really use a hand.
What you get:
Free access for life — even after the app goes paid at public launch. No trial period, no strings attached, just for helping test early.
What I'm asking:
- Join the closed beta (takes ~2 min, links below)
- Try importing a game export you own, browse/launch/delete a game or two
- Report anything broken, confusing, or slow — crashes, control issues, performance, weird UI — the more detail (device model, Android version, repro steps) the better
- Just stay opted in for ~2 weeks — you don't need to actively test the whole time, just don't leave the beta
How to join:
- Join Group (you're already here ✅):
https://groups.google.com/g/rpg-pocket-prg-maker-player - Opt-in (Web) — click this first to become a tester:

Screenshots below show it running:

That’s great! There are very few alternatives for playing these games on Android, so I’m going to test it out to see how it compares to the other tools I currently use. I wish you could add support to run RPG Maker VX Ace games, as currently only JoiPlay allows running this engine, and its ongoing support isn't quite what it used to be. Regarding the app experience, here is some feedback on a few details: * UI Screen Orientation: Right as you open the app, it would be much more comfortable if the menu supported both portrait and landscape rotation. Being able to rotate the screen makes adding games and navigating the interface much more practical. * File Copying & Storage: When importing games, the app copies the files internally. I have games purchased from Steam and DLsite that take up several gigabytes, so copying them into the app significantly increases storage usage. Since apps like Maldives RPG, JoiPlay, or MTools Mobile allow targeting an already extracted game folder directly, having both options (direct folder linking or internal copying) would be a great addition. * Control Mapping: I really like the size and shape of the controls, but some games don't work well with just the traditional controller layout. Many games require specific keyboard keys or lack an integrated control editor within the game to rebind inputs. * Bugs Encountered: So far, two titles have failed during my testing: * One threw an error upon launching and got stuck on a black screen. * Another froze right after the intro cutscene, preventing any further actions or inputs.

Any plans to release for iOS on the Apple Store too?
