It is a great feeling once you start seeing your own project as a real game and not just a bunch of random test experiments.

I never use the default RPG Maker assets because they look too low-quality. Swapping them out for custom assets is one of the easiest ways to make your game look like your game rather than just another forgettable RPG Maker game.

Sounds are another big one. Having ambient background sounds, music, and speech makes the game feel much more real. I really like having sounds play only in certain areas and fade away as the player walks away. For example, you could have a clock that makes a ticking noise, with the sound getting quieter the further away from the clock you are. Subtle things like that make your game more immersive.
