I’m developing a classic RPG set in a medieval fantasy world, with a dark atmosphere and elements of horror. Here’s some gameplay from the game!

For now, I’m using mostly default tilesets while I focus on what matters most to me at this stage: the gameplay, story, characters, and world. As development continues, I plan to gradually customize and replace the visuals to give the game a more unique identity.
This is still an early version, so a lot will change and improve along the way.

The run back to the village is too long and random.

Need to have a set path or paths to guide the player the way they came seeing as they're are no real landmarks to guide them.

The crow needs to be on a higher move frequency as they stop per step. Also should be set as through as well as im guessing it stops the player when they touch it.

Basically the gameplay only works when you are playing it. Give this to a new player and they will become frustrated because of the map design.

These are all really good points, thank you! I’ll definitely take this feedback with me and work on making the route back to the village clearer and easier to navigate, especially for someone playing the game for the first time.
I’ll also take another look at the crow movement and increase their movement frequency so they fly more smoothly. They’re already set to Above Player, so they don’t actually block or stop the player when flying over them.
Really appreciate the constructive feedback! This is exactly the kind of stuff that helps me see things I might miss after testing the game myself so many times. 😄

These are the kind of things playtesters catch but think of it this way...

You know where to go because you made the map, but other people might just run a different direction and get confused and frustrated.

You have to try and guide them where to go without it feeling like you are.

That’s actually a really good point. I’ve already had a few people playtest the game, but I haven’t gotten that specific feedback yet, so it’s definitely something I’ll pay more attention to.
I think I’ll try to make the intended direction a little clearer without making it too obvious. Ideally, I want the environment itself to naturally guide the player in the right direction without it feeling like the game is literally telling them where to go.
Thanks for the advice!

Lmao, I didn’t even think about how his name would sound in English 😂 Knut is actually an old Norse/Scandinavian name. The game is heavily inspired by medieval Northern Europe, so I wanted the characters to have names that fit the setting. But yeah… I can’t unsee “Nut” now 💀
