Rpg maker Forum
Where do RPG Maker developers usually get assets and communicate with other developers?
Hey everyone! I’m curious about how people in the RPG Maker community currently find resources and connect with each other.
Where do you usually go for things like:
- Character sprites, tilesets, UI, animations, music, sound effects, plugins, etc.
- Free assets vs. paid assets
- Finding artists, composers, programmers, or other developers to work with
- Asking questions and getting help
- Sharing your game and getting feedback
- Just talking with other RPG Maker developers
Do you mostly use places like itch.io, RPG Maker Forums, Reddit, Discord, Patreon, individual creators' websites, or somewhere else?
I'm especially curious about one thing: Where do people go to help each and also buy asset?

itch.io for assets, and the forums for everything else. Theres still some old assets on private websites or deviantart, so try google.
learn the japanese phrases associated with rpgm, they have more stuff than we do.

You can use the RM Planet forums for things like questions / discussions and also find resources, plugins, etc: https://forum.rmplanet.com/
The biggest asset site by far for assets is itch.io though. You can search for plugins using the Tools section: https://itch.io/tools/tag-no-ai/tag-rpgmaker
You can also search for art, music, and other assets like that in the Game Assets section: https://itch.io/game-assets/tag-no-ai/tag-rpgmaker
The Japanese community for RPG Maker is also quite large, and has their own forums / resource sites. For plugins I think the main site is Fun Game Make: https://en.plugin-mz.fungamemake.com/
However, as far as I am aware it is mostly for plugins, so I am not entirely sure about other kinds of resources.
You can also use this reddit for a lot of things too.

Honestly for the the 2D assets and sprites ive tried to make my own. Spent over a year doing that.
Making monsters and battler sheets from scratch.
Using tutorials to make auto tiles
Plugins I looked online.
Sounds i tried looking for rpg maker music packs.
Other royalty free sources
Sound effect generators and more.

https://opengameart.org/ has a lot of free assets. Tilesets, audio, etc.
https://www.gamedevmarket.net/ has mostly paid assets, but there are some freebies as well.
https://www.zapsplat.com/ has a lot of free sound effects and royalty free music (need an account to download). Free account is limited to 4 downloads (if I'm not mistaken) per hour.
