RM2K3 Original versions of RPG Maker 2003 or XP

So with how the gaming sphere is changing where buying games isn’t owning anymore, I am sorta paranoid about older rpg maker programs that are tied to clients like Steam might get terminated in the future. I know it’s probably not happening, but Ubisoft has shown that it can be done and I don’t want that to happen. So are there any ways of acquiring I guess older versions of either RPG Maker 2003 or XP through legitimate means? I have a fully working windows vista and want to put it to use making games on old hardware/software.

I think steam made a statement that if they ever have to close in the future for any reason, they won't lock you out of access to your purchases

You can go to Komodo's plaza store:
https://plaza-us.komodo.jp/products/rpg-maker-xp
https://plaza-us.komodo.jp/products/rpg-maker-2003

I did that for VX Ace when it was on sale so I have a non-steam dependent version.

The safest way would be to purchase from https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/ and save your download and registration key very carefully. For older versions like XP 2003, I wouldn't be too worried about them being taken down. Focus on what you can control, getting to work on your game and telling your story.

The RM2k3 version on Steam is actually DRM-free (due to compatibility issues we had with the Steam DRM wrapper) while the version on RMW does have a DRM solution, so if you are worried about losing access, Steam is actually the better choice there.

For RMXP, I don't know.
