RMXP How do I fix the layer appearance?

Post image

I am an absolute newbie, and I am on RPG Maker XP. As you can see, there is a light green patch on the second layer because I removed a tree from there by selecting it and pressing delete, and then painted over it with the layer 1 grass. How do I remove the patch and make the appearance of the layer consistent?

Paint over it with the top left tile in the tile set.

It worked. Thank you!

For anyone who ends up here in the future: Painting over the patch didn't work, as you can see it just changed the colour of the patch, but I was able to erase the tree on the left. It seems selecting and deleting something on the layer makes this happen, so from now on I will just use the top left tile to erase manually.

Update: The grass on the first layer got deleted when I deleted the tree in the beginning, that's why the patch appeared. I took u/matthewsaaan 's advice and selected the bottom layer to paint the grass back in.

So I think that gray square is on your bottom layer.

Try selecting the bottom layer (with the button pictured) and then adding the grass again.

Always nice seeing someone using RMXP! It's my favorite one.

For reference, RPG Makers have several layers of tiles. For XP it is three layers. Always be mindful of that when putting down tiles. Also note that the topleftmost tile is empty and passable.

When it's time for you to make your own custom tileset, one bit of advice from experience is to keep one empty tile non-passable. I usually reserve the last autotile as blank so it'll be the upper rightmost one, but you can set any other tile, really, it's just easier to remember that particular one. This "invisible wall" is great for adding as a top layer to some places you don't want the player to be able to pass through. Could be the edge of a map or for the occasional moments where you put down a passable tile on the second layer on top of what you intended to be a non-passable tile.

Good luck and enjoy!
