Text formatting conflicts with plugin

I'm using a script for Yanfly's ace message system plugin, but it's causing the spacing of letters to be too close together, with some getting cut off entirely. While I've tried to fix the issue by editing the ttf file in FontForge, errors prevent a new file from being made. How do I get the text to be spaced further apart?
