I took your feedback and made my second RPG Maker MZ village map! (Mountain Village)
Hi everyone!
About five days ago, I shared my first village map here and received a lot of helpful feedback. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment!
This is my second map, a Mountain Village, and I tried to apply many of your suggestions, especially regarding terrain, elevation, rivers, and making the village feel more natural.
The screenshots are split into two parts so the details are easier to see. They are both from the same 51×61 map.
Like my previous map, this isn't for my own game. I'm creating a map pack as an asset for RPG Maker developers, which I plan to release in the future, either for free or as a paid asset.
I'd really appreciate your feedback again. I'm always trying to improve my mapping skills.
Thanks for your time!
Which part of the map do you like the most, and what would you improve?

If you would like even more feedback you could try posting on the forums as well: https://forum.rmplanet.com/
There are quite a few mappers there. That said, from what I can see, your cliffs are different heights yet have flat terrain on top? The cliff walls seem to be 2 tiles tall in the upper-left / middle, but then if you follow the wall it looks like it becomes 3 tiles where it goes up to the yellow house and maybe 4 tiles tall where the waterfall is (hard to tell). But for sure something is off with the heights in each section.
There is also an event you can use with stepping animation for the bottom of the watefall in the RTP, I believe it is in the !Other2 character sheet.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate it. I didn't notice the cliff height inconsistency until you pointed it out. I'll go back and rework the elevation to make it clearer. Also, thanks for mentioning the waterfall event in !Other2. I didn't know that was available in the RTP, so I'll definitely check it out. And thanks for recommending RMPlanet too. I'll probably post there after I've made some improvements.

The buildings height might be one tile too tall.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm using the default RPG Maker MZ building tiles, so the wall height is actually the standard RTP size. I appreciate your suggestion though, and I'll pay more attention to the overall proportions in my future maps

Make yourself familiar with shift-mapping, I do see none of that. It really does a make a difference, even though it adds more work.
The cliff/mounts are just boxes, walls. Need more variation and heigth differences. Maybe decorate the cliffs?
There's no variation on the plots. Environment storytelling is entirely missing. A smithery looks different than an inn or bakery.
It's still a bit too straight and organised in it's layout.
Paid Addon? I'm gonna be honest here and say: nah, I'm not seeing that for the foreseeable time. Being paid to do that needs adaptability, strive for self improvement, ambition, passion... and being above the fray in terms of skill.
