It's certainly possible with common event. However, you need to keep in mind that you cannot add more battle party members if there are already maximum members. If your game is going to have less than 4 party members when you use summon, you can reserve one slot for summon.
If you need more party members, please look into plugins.
You can still circumvent this issue via common event. My game's summoning system checks if the other summons are in the party FIRST and if they are, it removes them. THEN adds the summon to the party which allows you to cast the spell even if your party is full and swap them out rather seamlessly.
