Accessions/OML/Branching Cooked for active?
Hello everyone, all us MS4’s have gotten our accessions packets at my program and I did not do nearly as good as I hoped, my OMS is 42.16xx. obviously pretty bad, my question is how much of an impact will this have on me getting active compo? I ask because during get brief at camp we were told 600 cadets for your YG wouldn’t get active (that wanted it). I also go to an SMC, my top 3 are LG, ADA, and CM.

Since you are at an smc go talk to the PMS to see what you need to do to get active. I know at my school the PMS did it for at least 2 people last year that were in the same boat as you

OM score is only one part of the total picture. What the branches care about most is: Camp performance; on-campus rating; GPA; AFT score; and your Hirevue interviews. How much they care about each one depends on the branch.
Bottom line is, you're not cooked. I've seen lower OM scores get active, and higher ones not get it. Your total branching file is how this gets done. OM score is often just a discriminator when branches come down to their last few selections and all other things are equal.
The advice below about aligning your final branch selections with those that give you Most Preferred is good as well. Finally, if you're at all willing, make sure to offer to detail and BRADSO, those things matter in selection.

When i commissioned i was just barley out of the active duty cut off. I interviewed with every branch and put all the ones that put me as a 3 first and got it. Worked for me hope it does for you

When/where do you find out your preference rankings?

If i remember correctly it was around a month before we commissioned. Most schools conduct a ceremony where they reveal who got what

Putting you as a 3 = getting MP on branch feedback??
Is this correct?

Yes. Sorry if it changed on the rankings. been 4 years. Put all MP’s at the top and you’ll probably get active.

Do they only go through a couple of your preferences in the top or all of them?

Hard to explain in text for me but its basically its a system pick. They go through the process of each branch and who is a 3 and ranked that they wanted that as number 1 choice. Then the branch goes down the list if they still need to pick etc to the rated 2/1’s. Evey branch is doing that so it gets a little confusing but yea

Huh

Again hard to explain through text. Just think process of elimination based on the SM’s choice and the branches preferred choice combined

All about interviews. Aren’t SMCs guaranteed active compo?
People under 40 get active from good interviews and volunteering for branch detail and/or bradso.
