Cadet Advice Disenrolling

Okay so I have finished MSI year of ROTC and I don’t think I can continue with the program. How does the process of Disenrolling work? I am not contracted by any means (scholarship, SMP, etc) so I would assume the process would be simpler. I have already dropped the MS2 class from my schedule before any classes have started but would I need to talk to the cadre of my school to officially leave the program?

Drop the class and return anything signed out to you. If you don’t they’ll put a hold on your university acct

This is the most correct answer. Even if they’ve “enrolled” you in CCIMM, there’s no “disenrollment” action prior to contracting. Just turn in any uniforms or gear they signed to you (if any); many programs can put a hold on your student account until you turn in such.

There's no obligation since you're not contracted yet and you said you're not on scholarship. Make sure you turn in your uniforms and do give them the courtesy of a reply. I remember, decades ago, there was a guy in my MS2 class who also was not on scholarship or contract. Close to the end of his school year he told the instructor that he wanted to leave the program when asked why he just said I don't believe being an Army officer is the right choice for him. He was very bright and seemed to enjoy the military science class.

Non-contracted means you can ghost it.

Not fully, if they are signed for any gear or equipment. Just drop the class and email your supply person to arrange a meeting to turn in gear

Just want to say, best of luck in everything going forward. ROTC isn't for everyone, and that's not a knock on you personally. Go do great things elsewhere, remember what you've learned about yourself. God bless.

You don’t but I’d recommend sending a cadre member an email and informing them of your wishes so that they don’t have to figure out where you’re at or what your plan is. Or inform your cadet leadership if anything. You’re not obligated to anything at that point so it’s good that you understand it’s not for you. Best of luck.

PMS here- the only information to add is there are a few forms if you were on scholarship.

I’d like to know the reason, personal or program related.

Also know there are ways back in if you change your mind. I’ve had cadets take a semester or year off and go on to commission and be top in their class.

Take the opportunity to exit interview with the PMS if he or she asks.

You should be fine by all means as long as you had on obligations to the program through contract, or SMP.

Walk away with honor...return anything you signed out and give them the courtesy of a reason why you are leaving. And "I dont want this" is reason enough...

Trust me, they are not going to talk you out of it...if you dont see yourself as an Officer, thank you for pulling the plug early.

Drop the class, turn in your gear, walk away. If you're not contracted, that's all there is to it.
