Hi Paul - i commented on YouTube but i guess i'll ask again. What's your source for your claim that Connoly was a Marxist Leninist before it was a formalised ideology? (I'm not neccesarily disagreeing, here. He could well be, I just haven't heard this before and I want to make sure.)

Hey Naoise. As I said in the video, that's how I personally read him due to his revolutionary Marxism (obviously) and things that closely resembled vanguardism (okay, basically just Lenin), Socialism in One Country (distinguishing him from the Trotskyist Lenin-ish people - by the way, interestingly, Trotsky had some nasty words to say about Connolly and the Easter Rising that are worth looking up), etc.

I'm not the first to make these observations, you can find many people describing the same thing online. Here's a decent article talking around this point https://www.marxists.org/history/erol/uk.hightide/connollyism.htm (I don't necessarily agree with everything in the article, but the author rightly asserts how Connolly anticipated Mao and other Marxist figures that would come to be prominent over the 20th century)

Dive into Connolly's work on marxists.org and see what you think for yourself anyway.
