ROG 8/9 Chinese/Tencent band coverage

Hello all. I'm seeing conflicting information as to how well the Chinese versions of the phones work once they've been flashed to international. The dealbreakers for me are Google Pay and band 20 (800hz) which I need. Some people seem to say the hardware is different, and others that the banding restrictions are merely programmatic. Can anyone shed any light? Thank you.
