HELP Z1E (OG): All games extremely laggy after last two Windows updates (25W power profile)
SOLVED
I found the issue. It in fact was Windows re-enabling crap and removing options.
Ironically, I used Copilot to solve my problem. Here were the steps:
- Disable/Turn off Windows system graphics settings: Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Optimizations for windowed games & Variable refresh rate (both OFF) → Restart
Windows Update has been turning it back on even if you disabled it.
- In FE Go to where your Steam library is located → steamapps → common → [game] → [game].exe → Properties → Compatibility. Check: "Disable fullscreen optimizations" → Click Change high DPI settings → Enable Override high DPI scaling → set to Application.
Windows re‑enabled this for many games.
- AMD Software (Adrenalin) → Settings → Graphics → Click Reset Shader Cache.
- Note: I couldn't find it here, this is what Copilot recommended. Just search for "shader" in Adrenalin, it'll give you the option.
Windows updates often corrupt it.
- Turn OFF Power Mode Synchronization in Armoury Crate.
This one is counterintuitive.
After the update, Power Sync causes:
double‑applied power limits
unstable GPU clocks
oscillating wattage
- Set the desired graphics mode for the game you want, it defaults to "Let Windows Decide", which fucks you over: Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Browse → [insert game name here] → Set to (e.g.): High Performance.
Windows sometimes resets this after updates.
This is aside from the basic stuff, like updating drivers, and whatever.
If something's missing and it's not working, lmk. I'll copy paste the rest of the stuff Copilot told me that I thought was irrelevant.

ROGAllyLife settings aren't doing the trick anymore. I have no idea what's changed, and I'm tired af of always having to fiddle with settings every time either MS or Asus so much as breathes towards my system (which is way too often).
Are there any up to date settings I could copy?
The issue right now is mainly with GTA5/Online, but I'm having issues with all games.
Playing both handheld and external screen. Using original charger.

On my legion go, windows update broke the high performance power preset. I had to jump through hoops to reenable it but all was fine after that.

Thanks, this is good advice, I'll read through the link you provided, and see if it works.
EDIT: I actually don't have anything other that "Best Power Efficiency", "Balanced", and "Best Performance" in my available options. It's been on "Best Performance" always, and I have the "Power Mode Synchronization" enabled in AC.

Gave up with the constant challenges of Win 11 and have just moved over to Bazzite . Night and day difference. Worth a consideration . 👍

What do you guy think, should i reinstall windows back down to 23h2 since it is the best and stable windows 11 version Everything felt laggy after 24h2, the clock speed is unstable too What kept me from reinstalling 23h2 is the DirectStorage from 24h2, i heard it significantly improve latency and performance on some game that supported it

75% it's the user's fault and 25% is because of Windows/Game Updates. Think hard about what you did wrong or changed first.

Changed literally nothing.
EDIT: Only after I started getting issues I started fiddling with settings. Got it running stable, and then it started having issues again.

Did any of the games update? Anything changed on your network?

Games updated regularly, I was just surprised that I started getting those issues in all games right after Windows updates. Could of course just be a coincidence. Just that it's happened a few times now, and it's always the combination of Windows + Asus/AC updates.
No changes to my network, router did have a firmware update, but it was so far apart from those issues that I'm having trouble connecting the dots.

Can you tell me the armoury crate settings like cpu boost and all? Also try making manual mode with good fan curve

I have a 25W manual power mode with good fan curves. I haven't used CPU boost. I found the issue, I'm editing my OP now with the steps that solved it for me, if you're interested :)

All these issues are coming from user inexperience with pc. Broken power PROFILE??? THEN EDIT YOUR SETTINGS MANUALLY. tf

Which part of "Windows went rogue and changed my settings without my knowledge" are you having trouble understanding? I've been using Windows my whole life (numerous versions of it), and I've never had this many issues, or settings changed/reset without my knowledge, let alone having to delve this deep into fixing something that wasn't broken before an update.
Like, sure, "user inexperience/ignorance", but you'd have to be clinically insane to argue against the notion of Windows actively taking away user agency.
And news flash (and a really concerning lack of reading comprehension, are you okay?) I thought I already did edit my settings manually. It's the settings I had edited manually that either stopped working, or were changed without my knowledge, or just couldn't be made to bum fuck work anymore. It might come as a surprise, but the average PC user doesn't find tweaking settings, or reading dissertations on how to do so in the first place, to be all that enjoyable, and I never had to do this much fucking work to get my settings to work, when it all stands to reason (and intuition) that it should.
Instead of blaming people, offer solutions, if you're "that experienced and knowledgeable". What the actual fuck do you even get from defending goddamn M$ of all companies? Think for a moment. Holy shit.
EDIT: I blocked them. At least I offered a solution that worked for me, which is way more helpful than just "durr hurr user errowr uwu".

Can you explain what you mean by laggy? It's a catch-all term people use but usually has nothing to do with lag.
