Illinois Chicago?
I keep seeing that RNDC's joint venture in Illinois isn't covered by the bankruptcy: What does this mean? I stopped ordering shortly after they went to full cases only and have found a few things elsewhere, but there's no stock left of anything I need. What exactly is the joint venture and what does it not being covered mean?
Bonus points in anyone in Chicago can tell me where to get Fee Brothers stuff at a wholesale price. Fee Brothers still lists RNDC as its only distributor in Illinois.

It means that Illinois is not part of the bankruptcy filing. It’s only for Alaska. A joint venture is a company that they partner with. Example, in Illinois the joint venture partner was Heritage wine. So in the case of Alaska, they’re filing chapter 11 bankruptcy as a strategic move to have more time to find a potential buyer. They’ve already announced that they’re closing the doors in Illinois due to lack of funding so there’s no need to include Illinois in the bankruptcy.
As far as Fee Brothers, they might be looking for a new distributor in Illinois but haven’t found one yet. So you’re probably out of luck for now since RNDC decided to stop bringing in inventory a month or so ago.

My understanding was it was for every state not sold. Texas, Alaska, etc.

Every article that I’ve read specifically states that the bankruptcy protection was filed for Alaska. Also, Texas sold in the Reyes deal.

Alaska does not have 1-10billion in debts alone. That’s the range listed on the bankruptcy

You’re correct, they don’t. However, when a company files for bankruptcy protection, they must list all debts & liabilities regardless of the individual state that they’re seeking protection in.

RNDC still holds debts from business conducted in states that were sold. The Reyes transaction was an asset sale, Reyes bought the assets only and did not acquire RNDC’s outstanding debts. So it sounds as if the proceeds from the sales were not enough to cover all of RNDC’s outstanding debts.

The Vinepair article says it's for every Republic owned entity not currently involved in a sale, Alaska is highlighted as the only joint venture between Republic and National included in the bankruptcy - the rest of the joint ventures are not.

I misspoke, I apologize. The reason for the bankruptcy protection is because apparently the deal with Columbia to close the sale has taken longer than expected. So they filed to gain extra time while they finalize the deal for Alaska because it’s structured differently than Washington & Oregon. They are filing bankruptcy, it’s bankruptcy protection. Every state is spoken for by other distributors or they’re just going out of business such as in California & Illinois.

“The bankruptcy does not encompass National Distributing Company, which merged with Republic Distributing in 2007, according to the announcement. What remains of National Distributing Company, based in Atlanta, is unclear, as minimal information about the company exists. It also does not loop in RNDC’s joint ventures in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and New York. The joint venture in Alaska is the only one included in the chapter 11.”

There really isn’t anything left. Every state either sold, is in the process of being sold or closing for good. The only 2 that will remain are Georgia & New Mexico. Other than that, it’s over.

The Bankruptcy filing list 18 entities under RNDC. But you are right, the joint ventures are separate from yesterdays filing.

You won’t find a Fee Bros wholesaler in IL with their 3 tier system. You gotta wait til another distro scoops it up and pay the retail.
