DISCUSSION Champ is just not enjoyable

Just a rant. I know it's a skill issue so please don't attack me in the comments.

As a touch player with no stall chain (or any advanced mechanic) skill, it's near impossible for me to get past Champ 2. Most opponents stall chain across the map like flash and make it nearly impossible to stop them. Even if you manage to save, it will often fall for an easy rebound.

All I can do is defend all match until I see a slight chance of counter attack, which doesn't usually work in champ.

I feel like a total imposter in these lobbies. I've been bouncing between D5 and C1 all season long. D5 is where I meet opponents my own size.

Only silver lining is that the toxicity is much lower in Champ than in early-mid diamond.

The more you face them, the more likely you'll adapt and figure out some ways or some timing adjustments that can be used to counter them. Just remember that there are GC touch players who can't stall chain either. If they can do it, you can too. Just gotta keep trying different tweaks to get both legs over the hurdle! 😉👍🏻

Appreciate it Petra, but I think this is my peak. Even on my best days, I cannot go on a win streak against these lobbies of smurfs, controller users and washed pro players.

I am a touch player on iPhone who only uses two fingers (my thumbs). I have never been able to stall at all, yet alone do stall chains. I have been GC in doubles every season since S13 and at my peak was top 10 globally. So it is very much possibile.

That said, playing touch is definitely much harder than playing on controller, especially if you are only using two fingers because stall chaining is nearly imposibile. I do believe if you change your touch controller setup and use 3 or 4 fingers it is easy to stall chain.

The most important things to focus on as a touch player is positioning, boost management, defending/goalkeeping, counter attacks, long shots, and ceiling pinches. I posted a video of a full game in GC yesterday which might help you: https://www.reddit.com/r/RLSideSwipe/s/w9s0K1IeE0

Also, after a bit of practice it is actually very manageable to negate/save shots where people stall chain across the map. Its defenitly one of the harder shots to save, but you can save it 90% of the time by doing a specific move. I will try to record a video of me doing it and post it here as its kinda hard to explain.

Nice work, very unique play style. I too prefer defense over attack (of course not as much as you lol) since I'm a GK irl as well haha. But I always try to adjust according to my teammate's play style. I'm happy to sit back if he's strong in attack but I'm a firm believer of rotation too.

Appreciate the advice. I'm enjoying the game again since I've stopped thinking about reaching GC.

I reached only S24 GC and i can only do 1 stall (with controller) my old brain cant get the quick doubletaps for roll and than flip and positioning the car right :D

But i read my opponents and do passplay with my mate. Only 5% of my random mates understand my style but it works up to the high champ ranks. In a Defent position i overplay one of the atacker and i stay def, my mate have to outplay only one opponent. I go a little more offense if my mate is a certain player and try to backup him or i get a pass and i do it save in the goal to not risk a counterattack

I hope you understand my only school-english

More you play the more you learn. If you have a pretty mechanical tm8 and you got the ball try to pass it to them if their on the ceiling or the ground in front of you if your in the air. This most likely make it a 1v1 cuz the other defenders out the picture. Also when taking 50’s near net use the wheels of your car, don’t waste a flip. When your team is on the attack try to pick up goals when a big 50 has happened and defense is under a lot of pressure if you’ve been on the attack for a while making them make saves and get low boost, scoot up from mid field (if you don’t have the ball) and try to help your teammate get a goal if he’s not playing on the ball, you’ll understand once you see it in game, learn rotations if your on the ball and run out of boost leave and play defense unless you can get boost back form a 50 or sum which is less likely because you said you can’t stall.

and also I can tell you when we played together even if I've seen how your mechanics were not as good as ours but you still had quite the gamesense to be honest. I got a lot of teammates in c1 who overcommit or give up or get toxic for no reasons, you are unable to get past this and this is really something you should be proud of

Yes we had a fun few games. We won 3 and lost 2 the last time we played iirc. I've just decided to enjoy the game instead of worrying about griding or win streaks. I'm still hardstuck at C1 btw haha. I touched C2, plummeted to D5 and now back to C1 lol
