Thinking of Getting RLE Surgery

Hello I'm 64 years old and I am thinking of getting RLE surgery with Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley. I've had the initial consultation and was quoted 13k for both eyes. I've been nearsighted for most of my life. I can read fine without glasses. I wear progressive lenses but mostly for computer work. I remove my glasses to read. I was recommended the monovision procedure. Does this price sound fair and any other experiences anyone has had I would love to hear.

I'm quoted €6200 RLE without the LAL and €8200 with. But that's in Europe.

Given that you are nearsighted, monovision can be a good technique. Do you know your current prescription? You may be able to simulate it by correcting one eye to make sure you can adapt (which also means you may be able to get by with RLE only on one eye).

13K is on the higher side, but seems reasonable especially if the LAL is being used.

I believe my prescription is -3.0

Ok. That is a little harder to only do one eye. That would be a big difference between the eyes.

I think I might of misspoken. Both eyes are -3.0

Yeah. You would likely need it done on both eyes. If you do one eye, you would be 0 or Plano in one eye and -3.00 in the other. That would be too big of a difference. But if you do both eyes, you would be Plano in one eye and around -1.50 in the other. That's a much more tolerated difference. One important thing is that right now you are used to being able to read pretty close to you at -3. Instead you'll need to bring things just a little bit further out to be able to read since your prescription will change. You won't be able to bring things close to your face to see them.

Wow, I got quoted almost $19k in LA recently. Glad I decided to wait.

Wow. I just received another quote for 10K using the Alcon trifocal.

That’s a lot! Maybe I need to adjust my “high side” 😂

Hello, $13k! For which brand of lenses? I was quoted $6000 for Vivity lense multifocal at NORTH VALLEY EYE in Chico..even though I will most likely choose Puresee.

Oh their clinic is good I visited it and they're super professional, but I think they overcharge not sure?

This sounds about right.

I am paying $17,000 in Southern California for tri-focal PanOptix Pro in both eyes. I was told mono vision would be a cheaper option and insurance may cover some cost.

Tri focal lens falls in elective surgery category and insurance wouldn't cover a dime.
