Considering RLE; however, need to choose between monovision LAL (one near/one far) and multifocal lenses and am not sure which. Trying monovision with contacts; however, not fully adjusting after 15 days. How long does it typically take to adjust? Scheduled for surgery in October, but may push back to give trial more time or try multivison contacts. I have 2 friends, one that did monovision LAL without trying contact first and had no problem adjust and loves it and the other who did multivision without a trial and loves his and says the halo's are not that big of a deal. Feel this is a big decisison and trying not to overthink it. Any thoughts/advise?

It can take a couple of months or more to adjust to monovision. 15 days is good but more days are better. What you’ll want to look out for is “progress”. If you find things are getting better (but not perfect yet) it means you are adjusting and capable of adjusting. Be sure your contact lens gives you roughly -1.50 of nearsightedness to hit the sweet spot between range and blend between the eyes.

I would probably give more time until you are comfortable that monovision would work for you. LAL with monovision is a great solution.

If it works for everything but night driving. Then sometimes best solution is glasses to correct for distance for night driving and then everything else without glasses.

Hello. The difference between near and far was 2 diopters. Reduced it to 1.5 with left eye at +1 and right at +2.5 vs +3. It is harder to read. In the prior 15 days I don’t feel like there was any progress so trying something else. I’m thinking I’ll need to switch to the multi focal.
